Overview
Cumulus is the CWMS national gridded data service. It is a centralized web service that collects and archives real-time and forecast meteorological products (primarily precipitation, temperature, and snow) from the National Weather Service and other sources. Users can download data on-demand using the main Cumulus website and through the CAVI extract editor.
Accomplishments
- Onboarded a new Cumulus developer from HEC.
- Supported the implementation of Cumulus data exchange through the CAVI Extract Editor.
- Added new data products from additional NWS RFCs (ABRFC, NWFRC, and NERFC). Only a few RFCs remain to be included in Cumulus.
- Coordinated with CWBI administrators and contractor to accomplish move of Cumulus to the CWBI production environment. This task is nearing completion.
- Added support for GeoTIFF data format download option along with HEC-DSS 7.
- Stood up a prototype implementation of LDM (Unidata’s Local Data Manger) as a cloud-based web application in CWBI, to serve data acquisition from external sources.
Field Support and Technology Transfer
The Cumulus team continued to provide user support and ensure reliability of the national gridded data service. User issue reports will continue to be served through cwms-griddeddata-support@usace.army.mil and issues tracking will continue to be conducted through the Cumulus GitHub Repository.
