Overview
Cumulus serves as the centralized, national gridded data service for CWMS. It collects, archives, and delivers real-time and forecasted meteorological data—primarily precipitation, temperature, and snow—from the National Weather Service and other trusted sources. Users can access and download data on demand via the Cumulus website or through the extract process integrated within HEC-RTS.
Accomplishments
Deployment to GovCloud
The team completed the deployment of Cumulus in the CWBI AWS GovCloud development, test, and production environments. This was the priority and primary effort for Cumulus this fiscal year to make it possible to decommission the current Cumulus deployment in the AWS commercial cloud in FY26 and transition CWMS users to link to the new AWS GovCloud instance of Cumulus.
Maintenance and Field Support
The team addressed a critical Cumulus service outage that occurred in FY25. The team also addressed a few field support requests, in particular updating watershed extents.
Process to Migrate Historic Data from District Servers
The team completed the development of a script to migrate historic data from district servers.
Updated Product Notes
The team deferred this task to FY26 as updates to the web site will be possible now that the Cumulus deployment in the CWBI AWS GovCloud platform is completed.

Interface Improvements
The team completed the development of three new interface enhancements:
- Improved catalog filtering
- Improved product heat map with more detail on missing data records
- New map-based, user-defined ad hoc download extents capability
These new enhancements will be pushed to the new Cumulus AWS GovCloud production environment in FY26.
