508 Compliance

Compliance for section 508 is based on the https://section508.gov/ website. 

When running 508 tests for your websites you will run one initial test during the process to deploy to PRODUCTION. 

Then once you have gone into PRODUCTION and are in maintenance/longer term development of your site. You might make new pages and/or introduce staff members. To ensure sites maintain 508 compliance regular 508 scans will need to be performed. 


Lighthouse will be the primary tool water management uses to run accessibility, performance, best practices, and SEO checks.

To run lighthouse:

1. Navigate to the page you wish to scan

2. Press F12 / right click + inspect (Dev Tools Required)

3. Click the "Lighthouse" tab in the dev tools at the top right

4. Select the options you wish to scan for: Default > Mobile > all 4 checked

5. Click analyze

6. You should see a report. Aim for 90%+ on all metrics

We will cover both the initial 508 scans in your browsers, and more automated O&M scans for going forward.
