HEC-HMS
- HMS Simulation DSS vs CAVI forecast.dss - HEC-HMS saves results to the simulation DSS file. You can edit the name and location of the output DSS file (in the HMS compute editor). When computing an HEC-HMS forecast alternative from the CAVI, HEC-HMS saves results to the simulation DSS file first and then copies results to the CAVI’s forecast.dss file. When using native HEC-HMS UIs to compute simulations from the CAVI, like the Zonal Editors within the Combined Parameter Editor, HEC-HMS will only save results to the HEC-HMS simulation DSS file (since this is a native HEC-HMS command), results will not be copied back to the CAVI forecast.dss file. Currently, you will need to re-run the HEC-HMS model alternative’s forecast from the CAVI to trigger the copy of updated results to the forecast.dss file.
- The HMS compute dialog does not always generate when using an MetVue model as input. The model will still be computed, the progress bar will stay at 0% compute and then be complete (https://discourse.hecdev.net/t/hms-messages-not-showing-when-computed-along-with-metvue/1917/4).
If referenced files are within the HMS folder of the project, the files are written in a relative form, so they should not break if moved from one computer to the next. Missing file references typically occur when file references are made external to the HEC-HMS project. This practice is discouraged, and it is good practice to keep all files references for the HMS model within the HMS project folder.
- There is currently an issue with multiple HEC-HMS model alternatives in the same forecast alternative. The first HEC-HMS alternative will acknowledge the precipitation but the ones after will note that the precipitation is missing. The current work around is as follows:
- Open the model and forecast of interest and compute like normal.
- Then close the forecast.
- Open the forecast back up and skip up through the first HEC-HMS alternative.
- Compute the model again and the second HEC-HMS model in the sequence should know be receiving the precipitation data.
- Repeat this process till all the HEC-HMS alternatives have been computed.
- HEC-HMS will not dynamically update the plotting window when viewing results. So if the new results go outside of the current graphically extents, please close the plot and reopen for the new results to be fully seen.
