Cumulus

As of CWMS 3.3.0, the CAVI support direct connections to Cumulus for obtaining gridded meteorological data and driving forecast simulations.   Primary access to Cumulus is through the CAVI Extract Editor.  Refer to the following tutorial on how to Setting Up a Cumulus Extract.

Currently, Cumulus mostly provide national NWS products for observed and forecast precipitation and temperature.  Products from some RFCs are also available and total RFC coverage is still in progress.  Additionally, snow data products are available, most important of which is the SNODAS product.  For a full review of  the Cumulus catalog of product, please visit https://cumulus.corps.cloud/.

A few key notes on the use of Cumulus through the CAVI:

  • Direct CorpsNet or VPN connection along with CAC authentication are required to access Cumulus
  • Both observed and forecast datasets can be included in the same extract group using the same Extract Time Window from the ExtractStart to the ForecastTime.
  • Products can be separated into different Cumulus extract groups, but the Extract Time Window should still be defined from ExtractStart to ForecastTime, even for forecast datasets.
  • Cumulus archives all issued forecast versions based on the issuance date and time.  The end time for an extract (in this case ForecastTime) is used by Cumulus to return the forecast version issued closest to or at that time.

CWMS Data API (CDA)

As of CWMS 3.3.0, the CAVI support data (read-only) access to local or the national CWMS database using CWMS Data API (CDA).  For more information on CDA, please refer to:

Read-only CDA access through the CAVI is available from:

  • Time Series Icons
  • Data Status Summary Report
  • Extract List Editor
