Archiving a forecast allows you to save it for future reference or sharing. The process compresses forecast files into a .zip file for easy storage and distribution.
This guide will step you through the process of archiving a forecast.
Step 1: Select a Forecast to Archive
- Go to the Forecast menu and select Close.
- Go back to the Forecast menu and select Archive.
- In the Select Forecast to Archive dialog, choose the forecast you want and click Select.

- In the Enter Archive Comments dialog, you can include useful details such as:
- Forecast date and time
- Watershed name
- Model Alternatives used
- Any assumptions

Step 3: Choose Archive Folder Location
By default, the file will be saved to the location shown in the Archive Folder field.
To change the location, click the ellipsis (...) to open a file browser.
Navigate to your desired folder and click Open.
Step 4: Archive the Forecast
- Click OK to begin the archive process.
- HEC-RTS will temporarily become inactive.
- Once complete, an Archive Complete dialog will appear.
- Click OK to close the dialog.
Final Review
Once the archiving process is complete, open a File Explorer and navigate to the folder where you saved the archive. Confirm that the .zip file has been successfully created.
