This guide will teach you how to open an existing watershed within HEC-RTS.
There are two ways you can open an existing watershed:
- The Open Watershed menu option
- The Recent Watersheds list
- Launch HEC-RTS.
- Select Open Watershed from the File menu.
- The Open Watershed dialog will appear.

- Choose the appropriate Available Location.
- Select the watershed from the Available Watersheds list.
- Click OK. The dialog will close and the selected watershed will open.
If you do not see a watershed listed under Available Watersheds after selecting an Available Location, the folder structure does not follow the storage convention required by HEC-RTS. The Available Location must be the top-level directory for an HEC-RTS watershed. Within this directory, there must be a folder named watershed that contains the HEC-RTS project directories. In the example shown above, the folder structure would be .../3.5 Watersheds/watershed/NAB_Juniata, where the NAB_Juniata folder contains all files for the HEC-RTS watershed.
Using the Recent Watersheds List
If the watershed you want to open was one that you recently accessed, you can use the Recent Watersheds list.
- Launch HEC-RTS.
- From the File menu, select Recent Watersheds.

- Click the watershed you want to open from the list.
- The selected watershed will open.
By default, the Recent Watersheds list displays the last five watersheds you have accessed. Refer to the User Manual to change this setting.
