There may be times when you need a shapefile of your stream alignment—for example, to share with colleagues, use in external GIS software, or incorporate into another model.

This guide walks you through the steps to export your existing stream alignment from HEC-RTS.

To export the stream alignment:

  1.  In the Setup tab, go to the Watershed menu and select Stream Alignment.
  2. Click Export.
  3. A file browser will appear. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the shapefile.
    1. By default, the watershed’s main folder is selected, but you can choose another location (e.g., the watershed’s maps folder).
  4. In the File name field, enter a name for the shapefile, making sure to include the .shp extension.
  5. Click Save to complete the export.

Your stream alignment will now be saved as a shapefile, ready for use outside of HEC-RTS.
