When watersheds are transferred between computers or forecasts are archived, the Open Forecast dialog can become cluttered with forecast remnants (forecasts that appear in the list but no longer exist locally). Attempting to open these "ghost" forecasts results in a null forecast containing no data.

Introduced in HEC-RTS 3.6, the Cleanup Forecast Remnants feature automates the removal of these erroneous forecasts, keeping your watershed accurate and uncluttered.
This tutorial will teach you how to use the new tool to scan your watershed and remove unwanted forecast remnants.
Step 1: Delete Forecast Remnants
- Launch HEC-RTS and open the specific watershed you wish to clean up.
- Click on the Modeling tab.
- From the Forecast menu, select Cleanup Forecast Remnants.

- The Confirm Forecast Remnant Delete dialog will open.

- Review the summary, which displays the total number of functional forecasts versus the number of forecast remnants found. In the above example 35 forecast remnants were found.
- Check the boxes next to the forecast remnants you wish to permanently remove.
- Click the Delete button to clear the selected remnants from your watershed.
Step 2: Confirm Removal
- From the Forecast menu, select Open Forecast.
- The deleted forecast remnants will no longer appear in your active forecast list.
Additional Notes
If you run this tool on a healthy watershed with no broken links, HEC-RTS will return the following informational dialog:

This process only deletes the orphaned forecast links (the "remnants") cluttering your menu. It will not delete or alter your actual, functional forecast data.
