A master watershed is a shared watershed used by multiple modelers and stored on a shared network drive. It contains both base and forecast data and must be accessible to all team members. To contribute updates, team members need write access to the shared drive. Any watershed can be converted into a master watershed. It may originate from a local setup or already exist on a network drive.
This guide walks you through converting an existing watershed into a master watershed.
Step 1: Open the Watershed
Launch HEC-RTS.
Open the watershed you want to upload.
Step 2: Enable Team Modeling
Navigate to the Setup tab.
Select Watershed Properties from the Watershed menu.
In the dialog, click the Team tab.
Check the box labeled Team Watershed to enable team modeling features.
Step 3: Choose a Master Watershed Location
Do not select the CWMS Server option—this feature is being phased out.
To upload the master watershed to a shared network location:
Select WindowsNetwork.
In the Master Watershed Folder field, click the ellipsis (...) button to browse for a folder.
Always use the ellipsis button instead of typing the path manually. Manual entry may cause performance issues in HEC-RTS.
In the file browser, navigate to the desired shared network location.
Click Open. The selected path will now appear in the Master Watershed Folder field.
Step 4: Upload the Watershed
Click Upload Now to begin the upload.
When prompted, enter a brief note in the Enter Upload Comments dialog. This comment becomes part of the version history and cannot be edited later.
Click OK to proceed.
The Watershed Properties dialog will become inactive and show an Uploading indicator.
An Upload tab will appear in the Messages Pane showing upload progress.
When the upload finishes, an Upload Complete dialog will appear, showing the number of files uploaded.
Click on any of the ellipsis buttons in the dialog to view detailed information (e.g., files deleted, files skipped, or copy errors).
Click OK to close the dialog.
Final Review
Once the watershed has been successfully uploaded, other team members can access it from the shared network location and download their own local copies. To confirm that the upload was successful, ask another team member download the watershed using this guide.
