Missing data in key time series can significantly impact the decision-making process. HEC-RTS offers tools to detect and examine gaps in individual datasets.

This guide walks you through using the Data Status Summary dialog to locate missing data segments in the datasets that matter most to you.

Step 1: Open the Missing Data Segments Dialog

To view missing data:

  1. Open the Data Status Summary dialog.
  2. In the data status list, locate and select the time series dataset(s) with missing data.
    1. Use the Missing column to identify which datasets have missing records.
  3. Do one of the following:
    1. Go to the View menu and select Missing Segments.

    2. Right-click the selected dataset(s) and choose Missing Segments from the shortcut menu.

Step 2: Review the Missing Data

The Missing Data Segments dialog shows internal gaps - time periods where data was expected but is missing.

How HEC-RTS classifies data as "missing":

  • Regular Intervals: Data is expected at every interval (e.g., 15 minutes or 1 hour). Any missing values at these points is considered a gap.
  • Irregular (or Undefined) Intervals: You must specify a threshold (in hours) in the Consider missing when no report after field in the Data Status Summary dialog. This tells HEC-RTS how long a gap must be before it's flagged as missing.

If needed, use the Data Validation Editor to correct data issues before continuing with your workflow.
