Adjusting the Animation Type Selector function updates the animation reference point and updates the way the animation is displayed.

Options include:

  • Time Window: moves the entire time window (default).
  • Start Date:  keeps the end date fixed and moves the start date.
  • End Date: keeps the start date fixed and moves the end date. 

Animate the Default Time Window Option

Ensure that the time window and time step are both set to 1 hour and that the date range is set to the very beginning of the loaded grids (28 Aug 2021 12:00) and the Animation Type is set to the default TimeWindow option:

Animate the End Date Time Window Option

Next, reset the start of the dynamic time window toolbar to 28 Aug 2021 12:00 and select the EndDate time window option.

Play (the animation with the EndDate time window option.

Question: What do you notice about how the animation progresses using the "EndDate" time window option?

The Start Date remains the same while the End Date progresses Forward by 1-hour with each timestep. As the animation progresses, the cumulative precipitation throughout the corresponding time period is animated within the map window.


Animate the Start Date Time Window Option

Next, reset the dynamic time window date range to span the entire time window available (28Aug Aug 2021 12:00 - 01 Sep 2021 00:00) and select the StartDate time window option.

The animation begins by illustrating the cumulative precipitation from the entire time window:

As the animation progresses, the Start Date progresses Forward by 1-hour with each timestep while the End Date remains the same, displaying the cumulative precipitation within the displayed date range as it plays. This option essentially illustrates the precipitation event in reverse, removing precipitation from each hour as the Start Date progresses forward.
