Zones can be viewed through the Project Tree under Map Windows. The image below shows the relevant nodes.

From the image above, the "Zones" node corresponds to the Zone Manager, under which there are multiple zones. Within this project, there are four zones: Upper, Middle, Lower East and Lower West. Under the zone named "Upper", there are four polygons: Calpella, Lake Mendocino, Talmage Loc, Ukiah. This representation of the zones provides the ability to view the organization of the polygons into zones.

In order to create or edit zones, the user must right-click on the Zones node, as shown in the image below.

If the user clicks the "Zone Editor..." menu item, the Zone Editor will be launched as shown below.

In the Title of the Zone Editor, the Session and Map Window names are both presented. This allows the user to track which Map Window they are currently editing.

The Zone Editor contains a Tree View, similar to the Project Tree. In this editor, the user can Add, Edit and Remove zones with the buttons on the right-hand side of the editor. Additionally, when selecting zones or polygons, the associated Polygons are highlighted in the Map Window with a gray color, as shown below. This allows for spatial visualization of the zones.

It is recommended to turn off Contour and Polygon Average layers when building/editing zones, to prevent the highlighting colors from being obscured by map data displays.

Additionally, the user may edit or remove a zone by right-clicking on a Zone node in the Project Tree as shown below.

Regardless of which Edit button is pressed (from the Project Tree or Zone Editor), a Mover Dialog is presented for the Zone, as shown below.

In the image above, the "Upper" Zone is being edited, where "Calpella", "Lake Mendocino", "Talmage Loc" and "Ukiah" are currently included in the zone. Note that all four of these subbasins are in the "Selected" column on the left and filled in blue, indicating which subbasins are included in this zone. Additionally, the user clicked on both "Calpella" and "Lake Mendocino", as is indicated by the red outline in the Map Window and the Blue Highlighting in the "Selected" column of the editor. Additionally, "Hopland" and "Feliz Creek" are bordered with thick gree lines and highlighted in the "Available" column on the left of the editor. Highlighted Polygons can be either Added to, or Removed From, the "Selected" column, with the Add/Remove buttons.

When the Zone Mover Dialog is open, the user may click polygons in the Map Window or the or the polygon names in the "Available"/"Selected" columns to highlight them for addition or removal.

When editing zones, the Project Tree and most of the toolbar buttons are disabled. This keeps the focus of the program on the current zone editing. Once zone editing is completed, the Project Tree and toolbar buttons will become reenabled.

It is highly recommended to avoid having overlapping zones. When there are overlapping zones, adjustments with the Zonal Adjustment Editor will conflict between zones, potentially leading to undesirable results.
