Zone Settings are tied to the Maps within a Map Window. Since the Zones are dependent on the Maps loaded in a Map Window, the Zones follow the same inheritance as the Maps. For example, if a Session has Zones defined, then any new Map Window created under that Session will have the same Zones. Additionally, If the user attempts to remove a Map that contains polygons within a Zone, that operation will be blocked until the user removes the Maps polygons from Zone specifications. This prevents the user from having invalid Zone configurations.

Since Zone Settings are tied to the Maps Settings, the "Inherit Map Data..." actions will make the Map Window or Session inherit the Zone Settings in addition to the Map Data.

Zone Settings in a Map Window consist of a Zone Manager, Zones, and Polygons. A Zone Manager is a collection of all the Zones. Similarly, a Zone has a name and is a collection of multiple Polygons. Each Polygon contains a reference to the shapefile in which the polygon is defined, and the identifier of that polygon within the shapefile. Based on these settings, the Polygons within a Zone can be collected, and then leveraged for computing Zonal Averages within the Zonal Adjustment Editor.
