Planned Activities
In FY25, the team will continue work towards the CWMS Cloud Migration MVP Plan and progress towards transitioning to the CWBI cloud in order to meet the March 2025 deadline to move off of the CPC/WPC.
LDM
| Activity | Funded (Y/N) | Cost | Delivery Date |
|---|
| LDM Web Application Development and Maintenance | Y | $30,000 (CRREL labor) | |
| Data Processing (SHEF Imports) | Y | $50,000 (HEC labor) | |
| Implementation of a Data Dissemination Process | Y | $50,000 (HEC labor) | |
| Development of Documentation and Training Materials | Y | $10,000 (HEC labor) | |
LDM Web Application Development and Maintenance
CRREL staff will help support and maintain the deployment of the LDM web application in the CWBI environment.
Data Processing (SHEF Imports)
HEC will develop, implement, and maintain tools for ingesting and creating SHEF products. This work will include integrating the tools with LDM, to ingest data files from and send files to the National Weather Service.
Implementation of a Data Dissemination Process
The team will implement a process for disseminating data to outside organizations. This includes working with River Forecast Centers to help them utilize CDA and cwms-python to ingest needed data, as well as developing an event-based process for disseminating forecast data to outside partners. This could include the use of LDM, CDA/cwms-python, and SHEF_processing (python project).
Development of Documentation and Training Materials
The team will develop documentation and training materials to assist district staff in utilizing the LDM tools for both data processing and data dissemination.
| Activity | Funded (Y/N) | Cost | Delivery Date |
|---|
| Integrate Services into Prometheus and Grafana | Y | $30,000 (HEC labor) | |
| Develop Documentation and Training Materials | Y | $10,000 (HEC labor) | |
Integrate Services into Prometheus and Grafana
The team will be developing a generalized monitoring service for all CWMS services in CWBI. Open-source tools will be used: the Prometheus monitoring system and the Grafana analytics and visualization platform.
Develop Documentation and Training Materials
The team will develop administrative documentation, especially for onboarding new team members.
CWBI Deployment
| Activity | Funded (Y/N) | Cost | Delivery Date |
|---|
| Preparation for Deployment | Y | $20,000 (HEC labor) | |
| Contracting Fees for Deployment Assistance | Y | $2 (contract)
| |
Preparation for Deployment
The team will ensure testing and validation of the services prior to deployment to the cloud. The team will also prepare system requirements and requests for deployment actions by the CWBI contractor.
Contracting Fees for Deployment Assistance
Support for services deployment to CWBI's production environment are provided by a contractor. For the deployment of new services, in particular the CWMS monitoring service, to DEV/TEST/PROD environments, funding is required to cover contractor labor.
Cloud Compute
| Activity | Funded (Y/N) | Cost | Delivery Date |
|---|
CAVI Cloud Compute Manager | Y | $20,000 (HEC labor) | |
HEC-FIA Cloud Compute Plugin Development | Y | $20,000 (HEC labor) | |
The team will see through the CAVI enhancements contracted in FY24 to allow for execution of Cloud Compute for CAVI forecasts runs with HEC-MetVue, HEC-HMS, and HEC-ResSim model alternatives.
HEC-FIA Cloud Compute Plugin Development
The team will also develop a cloud compute plugin for HEC-FIA, to add to the available suite of HEC cloud compute plugins (HEC-MetVue, HEC-HMS, HEC-ResSim, and HEC-RAS) under the USACE Cloud Compute project https://github.com/USACE/cloudcompute.
