Proposed Activities

Some of the proposed activities in FY24 include a variety of software enhancements. The automated optimization of forecast alternatives could help districts streamline forecast runs. Improvements to the Save As functionality would prevent copying of unnecessary files (terrain, DSS data, other files) which would save space and time in the long run. Proposed work includes a streamlined workflow to define parameters with the Expression Calculator using SNODAS, SMAP, and NLDAS data. Other enhancements include integrating the SnoPac parameter estimation tool into HEC-HMS and investigating model improvements regarding prairie potholes and frozen ground.

Field support and bug fixes will also be supported throughout FY24. The development of new tutorials and webinar materials is also supported by this funding.

The team will provide support for a Snowmelt Modeling Working Session, being held in December 2023 at HEC.

Enhancements to the cloud compute capabilities of HEC-HMS will also be investigated in FY24.
