Maintenance
The team will evaluate and address bug reports and document issues that cannot be fixed in a specific release cycle. The team will also continue to increase the automated testing coverage for HEC-MetVue. With several new HEC-MetVue features coming out in CWMS 3.4 and CWMS 3.5, maintenance is also dedicated to quickly react to and address new issues (including bugs and minor improvements) as more diverse usage occurs across the water management offices.
FY24 Contract Review and Acceptance
The team will review and validate contractor deliverables slated for HEC-MetVue 3.4 (CWMS 3.5) in Spring 2025 and for HEC-MetVue 3.5 (CWMS 3.6) in the Summer of 2025:
- (HEC-MetVue 3.4) Additional Layers Support in HEC-MetVue Animation, in particular animation of the Basin Average Layer
- Pending funding and priority, support for animation of the Point Measurement Value Layer and the Wind Vector Layer would be possible.
- (HEC-MetVue 3.4) Synchronization of Map Window Animations
- (HEC-MetVue 3.4) Synchronization of Animation and Time Series Plot
- (HEC-MetVue 3.4) Time Series Sampling Across Multiple Map Windows
- (HEC-MetVue 3.4) New Project Creation Aid Dialog
- (HEC-MetVue 3.5) CAVI-MetInterp Alternative
- CAVI-MetVue Ensemble Design
Development of New Tutorials
The team will develop tutorials on key new features, in particular the new multi-map window synchronized animation and time series sampling capabilities.
Software Release (HEC-MetVue 3.4 for CWMS 3.5)
The team will test new HEC-MetVue 3.4 features slated for CWMS 3.5 (and HEC-MetVue 3.5 features for CWMS 3.6) to ensure proper compatibility within the CAVI. The team will also update documentation to include the new features.
FY25 Contract Management
The team will design, scope, and award a contract for HEC-MetVue enhancements.
Basin Average Layer Scaling Contract Award
The Basin Average Layer does not adjust text label sizes when zooming in or out, which renders cluttered and unreadable text. This enhancement will implement adaptive scaling of the Basin Average Layer’s text labels based on zoom level to improve the display and readability for the user. A contract will be awarded in FY25 to implement this feature within the software.
Performance Enhancements
HEC-MetVue computes are fairly fast, even for large datasets. However, there are still untapped performance improvements (through distributed processing, multi-threading, and caching) that can enhance the compute efficiency even more, especially the CAVI-MetVue preprocessing computes.
CAVI-MetVue Ensemble Capabilities Implementation (Not Funded)
The design for new CAVI-MetVue ensemble capabilities is expected to be completed in Summer of 2025. Following the completion of the design, a new development task will require funding to implement the capabilities to handle ensembles inputs/computes/outputs/visualization through the CAVI and HEC-MetVue. Among other things, the development effort will include updates to the CAVI model linking and extracts, as well as HEC-MetVue distributed processing of ensemble datasets.
Animation Video Recording Contract Award
Ad hoc use of the animation tool is very helpful when performing a CAVI forecast simulation. A new option for video recording of the animation could also be helpful. The animation could provide for documentation and review of a significant event, as well as information sharing ahead of an event to provide situational awareness to leadership, partners, and emergency management. A contract will be awarded in FY25 to implement this feature within the CAVI.
Monthly MMC Working Sessions
The MMC hosts monthly working sessions on the CWMS Modeling Group within Microsoft Teams, allowing HEC-MetVue modelers to get support from experts. The team will continue to participate in these meetings, as they have proven valuable to the field. These sessions are a valuable way to provide field support, answer questions, and demonstrate important capabilities of the software to attendees.
