Testing HEC-FIA in CWMS 3.5

During the development of CWMS 3.5, the current version of HEC-FIA will be tested within CWMS to ensure compatibility of the software. This will benefit the field by uncovering any potential issues early in development before CWMS 3.5 is released.

Find and Fix Bugs/Release HEC-FIA 3.5

Efforts will include identifying and fixing bugs within HEC-FIA. If significant issues are found, HEC-FIA 3.5 will be released during FY25.

MMC Flood Damages Reduced Workshop

The team will be working with water managers and economists across USACE to host a Flood Damages Reduced Workshop in November 2024 at the Kansas City District office. Time will be spent improving the materials developed for the 2023 workshop and traveling to the workshop to help attendees learn how to use CWMS to compute Annual Flood Damages Reduced (AFDR). This effort is important, as it will help districts transition from legacy methods to CWMS models for computing damages reduced, an essential requirement for districts to become "fully implemented" according to the definition set forth by HQ.

Documentation Updates for Flood Damages Reduced

The team will update the AFDR SOP in FY25. This will include updating the documentation to reflect the current software, adding additional sections, and incorporating feedback from the MMC Flood Damages Reduced Workshop. Updating the documentation ensures that the field has the most current guidance to complete their modeling requirements for Flood Damages Reduced computations.

Development of New Tutorials for Flood Damages Reduced

The team will add additional tutorials to the Flood Damages Reduced documentation in FY25. Potential topics include how to develop a without-levee geometry in HEC-RAS and how to find sources of agricultural data. These tutorials will provide districts additional examples of FDR methodology and modeling techniques within CWMS in order to help districts compute AFDR.

MMC Monthly Working Sessions

The MMC hosts monthly working sessions on the CWMS Modeling Group within Microsoft Teams, allowing HEC-FIA modelers to get support from experts. The team will continue to participate in these meetings, as they have proven valuable to the field. These sessions are a valuable way to provide field support, answer questions, and demonstrate important capabilities of the software to attendees.

Field Support

The team will provide training and support to the field in their implementation of AFDR computations using CWMS.
