Implement Forecast Skill Assessment Tool
The team will develop a new tool to evaluate the performance of forecasts (gridded and time-series based) by comparing them against observed data. This tool will be implemented as a function library, designed for use not only within the HEC-RTS interface but also across other HEC applications and CWMS cloud services. Work is pending dedicated "other" funding. The intent of this capability is to provide an optional assessment of the long term forecasting skill at any point or over an area. One application is evaluation of forecast precipitation products in a watershed to aid in identifying better performing products overall or for specific flood types. Another possible application is to assess the long term skill in reservoir inflow forecasts to assist in planning for and monitoring improvements in forecasting workflows.
HEC-HMS
Improvements to Combined Parameter Editor Interface
Freezing the subbasin name column will keep it visible while scrolling horizontally. This ensures users can always see which subbasin they’re editing, reducing errors and improving usability during data entry.
Implement Changes to Map Visualization for Zones
This improvement will allow users to visually identify and distinguish zone groupings directly within the HEC-HMS interface. It aims to improve clarity and usability when working with zones.
Improve Plots to Display Precipitation as Snow or Rain
Users have requested the ability to visually distinguish between snowfall and rainfall in precipitation plots. This enhancement would improve understanding of model results, especially in snow-influenced basins.
