Stanford Gibson Accepts the Hans Albert Einstein Award
Hydrologic Engineering Center's (CEIWR-HEC) sediment transport specialist, Dr. Stanford Gibson, won the 2024 Hans Albert Einstein Award, also know as the "Einstein Award" (Figure 1). The Einstein Award is considered the premier award for quantitative sediment transport. The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) presents this award to acknowledge “significant contribution to the engineering profession in the areas of erosion control, sedimentation, and/or waterway development.” They recognized Dr. Gibson for the sediment capabilities in HEC-RAS (River Analysis System), almost 25 years of project and modeling work with collaborators across the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and “energetic tech transfer” reflected in his teaching, web videos, and podcast. This award not only reflects Stanford’s efforts but also industry recognition of the contributions of the HEC-RAS team, HEC, and USACE sediment subject matter experts (SMEs) to the field of sediment science.
Stanford gave the “Einstein Lecture” at the American Society of Civil Engineers, Environmental and Water Resources Institute's (EWRI) 2024 World Environmental & Water Resources Congress this year.
