Summary

The goal in the example was to decide which inundation-reduction alternative provides the greatest net benefit in the watershed. A required component of this is to develop flow-frequency functions for each alternative. By modifying the watershed characteristics and geometry within HEC-HMS, the analyst was able to develop the needed functions. These functions were then used with HEC-FDA (HEC, 2008) to compute expected annual damage. To complete the net benefit calculations, the next step will be to estimate the annual cost of each alternative and solve for the Net Benefit equation. The alternative with the greatest net benefit will then be recommended.
