Logging Options

These options to output various levels of HMR52 PMP computation and results details.

Log results to file

Option for generating a log file.

Logging level

Sets the output level to write in the log file. Options are Normal, Detailed, and Debug for increasing levels of detail.

Log File

The file path for the output log.

Replace log file

If this is selected, every iteration or storm movement resets the log file.

Append to log file

If this is selected, every iteration or storm movement appends more results to the log file.

Log results to screen

If this is selected, the output is written to the screen.

Hyetograph Output Options

These options are designed to assist with automatically extending the output PMP time series with prepended values of zero and/or a ratioed PMP, and/or with appended values of zero.  Once these options are set, the PMP basin average time series can be generated using the Save Time Series tool from the main HEC-MetVue toolbar.

Extension of the PMP time series beyond its 72-Hour duration is typically useful to ensure data is available for other applications that may require an analysis or simulation time window that are greater than the PMP's 72 hours.

Set hyetograph ordinals to 0.0 prior to start of PMP or PMP ratio

When selected, this option allows for generating time series ordinals of 0.0 prior to the start of the ratioed PMP hyetograph (or PMP hyetograph if the option to generate a ratioed PMP is not selected).

Typical use cases for this option are:

  • Zero out remnants of previously written hyetograph ordinals to DSS, especially when the option for the start date of the PMP is shifted forward.
  • Match another application's (e.g. a hydraulic model with an extended warmup period) simulation time window that is longer than than the 72-hour duration of the PMP.

Amount of time for which to set hyetograph ordinals to 0.0

This sets the extended amount of time with ordinals of 0.0 prior to the start of the PMP, or prior to the start of the ratioed PMP if that option is also selected.

Select the desired time units from the available list.

Apply PMP ratio

Select this to generate a ratioed PMP to be appended to the PMP.  The main use of this option is not meant to be used in USACE PMF studies.  Rather, this option offers the convenience of automatically extending the PMP time series for only stress testing hydrologic or hydraulic simulations as part of initial model development.

Caution: For USACE PMF studies, this option should not be used to create antecedent conditions. USACE PMF guidance requires 0.5 the PMF (not 0.5 of the PMP) to be routed as the antecedent condition in HEC-HMS. The antecedent storm is used to determine a starting reservoir stage for the PMF simulation, and should not impact initial baseflow and soil moisture for the PMF simulation.

PMP ratio

This is the ratio of the PMP ordinals to prepend to the PMP hyetograph. For example, to insert 50% of the PMP prior to the PMP, enter 0.5 for the ratio.

Amount of time before start of PMP to start the ratioed PMP

This is the amount of time to offset back the start of the ratioed PMP from the start of the PMP.   Select the desired time units from the available list.

Since the ratioed PMP and the PMP are each 72 hours long, the offset time between them should be at minimum 3 days.  When the offset time is less than 3 days, the ratioed PMP and PMP hyetographs would overlap prompting a warning message and preventing the execution of the HMR52 computations unless the the offset time is set to 3 days or more.

When the offset time is greater that 3 days, values of 0.0 are set for the output time series ordinals between the end of the ratioed PMP and the start of the PMP.  For example, an offset of 8 days will produce a 5-day gap without precipitation between the end of the ratioed PMP and the start of the PMP.

Start date of PMP

This sets the start time for the actual PMP. All additional data ordinals to be generated using any of the hyetograph output options are offset with respect to the specified start date of the PMP.

Set hyetograph ordinals to 0.0 following the PMP

When selected, this option allows for generating time series ordinals of 0.0 following the end of the PMP hyetograph.

Typical use cases for this option are:

  • Zero out remnants of previously written hyetograph ordinals to DSS, especially when the option for the start date of the PMP is shifted backward.
  • Match another application's (e.g. a hydraulic model with long routing times) simulation time window that is longer than than the 72-hour duration of the PMP.

Amount of time following the PMP to set hyetograph ordinals to 0.0 for

This sets the extended amount of time with ordinals of 0.0 following the end of the PMP.

Select the desired time units from the available list.
