A Peaks Over Threshold Analysis can be started in two ways, either by right clicking on the Peaks Over Threshold Analysis folder in the study explorer and selecting New, or by going to the Analysis menu and selecting New and then Peaks Over Threshold Analysis. When a new Peaks Over Threshold Analysis is selected, the user is required to first enter a Name for the analysis and an optional Description. The Peaks Over Threshold Analysis editor will not allow further edits by the user until the name is defined.

The user must select a time series in the Data Set drop down menu. A regular time series or an irregular (previously extracted partial duration series) can be selected. If a regular time series is selected, filtering criteria can be specified on the Filtering Tab.

Do not select an annual maximum series within the Peaks Over Threshold Analysis.

Once a Name is entered, the DSS File Name and Report File will automatically be filled out. The DSS filename is by default a DSS file with the same name as the analysis. The report file is given the same name as the analysis with the extension ".rpt". The Peaks Over Threshold editor is shown in the figure below.
