The current version of HEC-SSP allows the user to perform a volume frequency analysis of flow data. In this type of analysis, frequency curves are developed using flow time series that are averaged over user-specified durations. Runoff volumes are expressed as average flows over a time duration. For example, the 3-day flow is the average flow over a three day period. The volume from the 3-day flow would be computed by multiplying the 3-day flow (in cfs) by 259,200 seconds (3-days). Typical volume frequency analyses would develop frequency curves for a number of volumes (flow-duration) like the 1-, 3-, 5-, 7-, 10-, and 15-day volumes. The user can choose between different analytical distributions as well as perform a graphical fit to the data. This chapter discusses in detail how to use the Volume Frequency Analysis editor in HEC-SSP.
