The Model Linking Editor attempts to match inputs based on the type of results and names of the locations for the default model to link. Further, the available options in the Model Linking Editor are filtered based on data type. In some cases the correct linkage for an input location may not be found if the type of data or naming convention does not match the source. To allow for full control over the linkages, the Select Source Data button provides access to all outputs from models higher in the program order. The following instructions provide the steps to leverage this tool:

  1. Select a row in the Model Linking Editor table (e.g., Austin Ck Conf FLOW-LOCAL) and click Select Source Data.

Model Linking Editor, Location and Select Source Data button selection.

    1. If the Input From Model column is a model alternative, the Select Source Data Location dialog box opens.
Select Source Data Location dialog box, example for a selected location linked to the HMS Input From Model.
    2. If the Input From Model column is "DSS file", then HEC-DSSVue opens to allow the user to select a DSS file and path name parts.

For more information using HEC-DSSVue refer to the HEC-DSSVue User's Manual.

DSSVue main window opened for a selected location linked to a DSS File Input From Model.

  2. From the Select Source Data Location dialog box, the Location column provides the user with the model alternative above the current model alternative in the program order. The table lists all output data locations from the selected model alternative of the type that would match the parameter of the row selected in the Model Linking Editor.
  3. To show all locations available, check the checkbox beside Show All Source Locations.
  4. Select the row that contains the appropriate output data location (e.g., Santa Rosa Ck Loc) to serve as input for this location and parameter, and click Set Location.
  5. The row selected in the Model Linking Editor (selected in Step 1) now contains the new location information selected from the Select Source Data Location dialog box. The Select Source Data dialog box remains open, allowing the user to continue selecting source data for different rows in the Model Linking Editor.
  6. When all rows that are not able to be set based on the pre-populated Location/Parameter lists have been set, from the Select Source Data Location dialog box click Close. The Select Source Data Location dialog box closes.
  7. From the Model Linking Editor use the save button to save the linking.
