HEC-ResSim 4.1 Release Notes
About the Release of ResSim 4.1
HEC-ResSim 4.1 was developed with just a few goals: a short release timeline, stability, and three key improvements to the Operation Support Interface (OSI). Therefore, in alignment with our new DevOps approach, we kept the work focused. The three major OSI improvements are the addition of new OSI Table Fill Options, a new On-The-Fly (OTF) Fill Editor for editable OSI variables, and Observed Data has been added to the OSI Variable Editor. Smaller, but key, fixes made include a broadening of the usage of Global Variables and a compute logic adjustment that addresses the issue that some downstream control operation required more iterations in version 4.0 to perform as well as 3.5.
A brief summary of changes made for 4.1 is shown in the table below. A list of known issues and links to updated 4.1 content for this user's manual can be found at the links below.
Thank you for your continued feedback and support as we modernize HEC-ResSim and accelerate delivery. Your experience and input directly shape our priorities for the next iterations.
Changes in ResSim 4.1
| T | Release Title | Release Notes | Resolution | Key |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| New Water Quality Example Watershed | The ResSim release package now includes a third example watershed for users to experiment with. The WQ Example watershed focuses on the use the ResSim Water Quality feature. | Done | RSS-1437 | |
| Override Editor now works for Trials | Previously an exception was thrown when attempting to use overrides with trials. That bug has been addressed. | Done | RSS-1425 | |
| Downstream Operation | Minor update to the iteration logic for reservoirs and diversion which improve results related to downstream operation. | Done | RSS-1399 | |
| Global Variables - Scalar GVs now available to rules, zones, if-blocks, diversions when selected in Independent Variable Definition editor | Scalar Global Variables that can be represented as a numeric value are now available in the Independent Variable Definition window. This allows zones, if-block conditional statements, diversions, and various rule types to be defined as a function of a global variable, effectively as a constant value at all time-steps in the model. Global Variables can be set in the alternative editor, and with validation defined in the network's Global Variable editor. For real-time users and studies users this helps avoid the creation of duplicate operation sets where input parameters are being adjusted. | Done | RSS-1393 | |
| Storage Credit was affecting the reported zone storage values. | A bug was found that the stor-zone did not correspond to elev-zone values when using the storage credit option. This issue has been addressed and now the reported zone storage is correctly taking the storage credit into account. | Done | RSS-1390 | |
| OSI - Ability to paste comma-separated data | OSI interface has been updated to allow the pasting of comma-separated data, which previously would not paste correctly. | Done | RSS-1386 | |
| Calculate Selected Locals | Updated to prompt user to turn off Holdouts, so that they do not affect the calculation of selected locals. | Done | RSS-1373 | |
| New OSI Table Fill Options | Tooltips and new fill functions were added: Repeat to end – This option is like Repeat Fill, but only needs the selection of one cell. Repeat to… – Like Repeat to end, but this option provides a text box for entry of a date and time. Repeat n – Like Repeat to…, this function only needs the selection of one cell and it will take the value in the cell and fill the following cells up to and including the cell identified by “n”. Average – this option will average the values in all cells of the selected the range and apply the computed value as a “constant” to all cells in the range. | Complete | RSS-1355 | |
| New On-The-Fly (OTF) Fill Editor for Editable OSI Variables | A new data Fill Editor for editable OSI Variables was designed and added to make data entry less cumbersome and more efficient. | Complete | RSS-1354 | |
| New - Observed Data Added to the OSI Variable Editor | Observed Variables have been added to the list of variable types in the OSI’s Independent Variable Definition (IVD) editor. | Complete | RSS-1353 | |
| Monte Carlo Report | Monte Carlo report is reporting the Water account name correctly. | Done | RSS-1350 | |
| State Variable Importer default file location | The State Variable Importer now opens by default in the watershed folder. | Done | RSS-1152 | |
| Observed Data Plot | Observed data only shows up in the plot if observed data is found in the selected observed data set in the simulation time window. | Done | RSS-1097 | |
| Unverified Compute Option for changing calculation of controlled outlet capacity | Some work was done on the calculation of the controlled outlet capacity, but a complete fix was not achieved. There is now an option in the Compute Options to allow ResSim to Iterate Rules and Uncontrolled Flows Together to allow better calculations, but this option should be used with care. It has not passed all vetting. | Future Version | RSS-127 |
