When using the Workflow Buttons - HEC-RAS Geometry Overridden when two HEC-RAS Alternatives are included HEC-RASUsing the Workflow Buttons with multiple HEC-RAS Alternatives in a single forecast can cause the first HEC-RAS geometry to overwrite the other.

Workaround - Recommended to not use the workflow buttons in these forecasts. Ensure that the correct HEC-RAS alternative is selected by launching HEC-RAS and starting the compute directly from HEC-RAS.

Team Forecasting - Download Button for Forecast Greyed out InitiallyTeam ForecastingWhen first downloading a Team watershed, sometimes the user is unable to download Team forecasts because the Download button is greyed out.
Workaround: Create a fake forecast, which activates the button, or closing and reopening the watershed without closing the CAVI.

Model Linking overwrites pathname when single location has multiple data locationsHEC-RAS, Model LinkingPathnames for 1D Storage Areas that have multiple boundary conditions are overwritten.

After running a forecast in the CAVI, all boundary conditions for a 1D storage area with multiple inflows are reset to the same DSS pathname. The pathnames are initially correct in both the Model Linking Editor and the HEC-RAS unsteady flow file before the forecast is run, however after the forecast is computed the pathnames will be reset to the same value for any 1D storage area with multiple inflows.

Workaround: Open the HEC-RAS model from the Setup Tab, and from the Unsteady Flow editor give each of the boundary conditions for the 1D storage area a unique name (Options - Boundary Condition Names). Update the HEC-RAS model linking with the "Use Existing RAS Linkages" option from the Model Linking Editor.

Missing HEC-FIA Terrain will prevent copying of the HEC-FIA alternative to a new ForecastHEC-FIAIf any HEC-FIA terrain is missing in the base watershed (Listed in the HEC-FIA project but does not exist at the location specified) when a forecast is created that includes an HEC-FIA Alternative, the HEC-FIA alternative folder will fail to copy. (no fia folder will be created in the forecast).

Workaround - fix the faulty terrain path in the base HEC-FIA project, and replace from base for the forecast.

Misleading Error Message in Visualization Tab when displaying gridded dataCAVI, Visualization TabA misleading error message is displayed when the time window selected in the Visualization Tab does not match the gridded data set that is being displayed in the CAVI. The CAVI will display a Warning stating "WARNING: The DSS file given does not exist, but is required to exist" if the CAVI time window chosen does not match the data of the gridded dss file. Modifying the CAVI time window to the time period of the .dss file will allow the gridded data to display in the map window. Error message will be improved in a later release.CWMS-1437Future Version
MetVue-Cumulus Plugin looks hung if the requested download time window exceeds the acceptable threshold for CumulusCumulus, HEC-MetvueIssue: MetVue-Cumulus Plugin looks hung if the requested download time window exceeds the acceptable threshold for Cumulus. Currently the MetVue-Cumulus download progress dialog doesn't provide any informative messages about this situation.

Workaround: When encountering this situation, simply close the MetVue-Cumulus plugin progress dialog and redo the download request using a shorter time window (typically one month or less should be acceptable by the Cumulus service).

Improve HEC-MetVue Preprocessing messages for INST-VAL data fillingHEC-MetvueMetVue Preprocessing messages need improvement to list out all filling methods used for INST-VAL gridded records that have missing data a the start and/or end of the time window as well as other instances of missing data in the middle of the time window.CWMS-2068Resolved
HEC-MetVue Preprocessing not Triggering for some forecast runsMetVuePluginIssue: Having the very first Forecast Run with no HEC-MetVue alternative throws off preprocessing for HEC-MetVue alternatives down the list of Forecast Runs.

Workaround: Until a new version of CWMS with a fix, the workaround is to ensure that the first Forecast Run contains a HEC-MetVue Alternative. One can also use the Forecast Run Editor to Save the non-HEC-MetVue Forecast Run as a new Run, which will put the copy at the bottom of the list. So when it comes to adding the forecast runs in a new or existing forecast simulation, that would guarantee that a HEC-MetVue Forecast run is at the top of the list.

HEC-MetVue Preprocessing Fails for Inst-Val gridded records that have first or last grid missingMetVuePluginIssue: HEC-MetVue Preprocessing messages do not report all the data filling methods used when INST-VAL gridded records need filling at multiple instances in the time window.

Description: HEC-MetVue Preprocessing messages need improvement to list out all filling methods used for INST-VAL gridded records that have missing data a the start and/or end of the time window as well as other instances of missing data in the middle of the time window.

HEC-MetVue data display only (not computation) do not use non-GMT watershed settingsHEC-Metvue, MetVuePluginIssue: For non-GMT CWMS watersheds (i.e. watersheds built with a local time zone), HEC-MetVue data displays do not currently apply the local time zone by default unless the user sets Time Zone read overrides in the input data Map Windows.

For Computation on the other hand, HEC-MetVue does use the CWMS watershed's Time Zone setting by default, so HEC-MetVue and HEC-HMS computations handle the local time zone appropriately. This issue only affect the display in the CAVI but the not the computations

Workaround: To fix the display issue in the CAVI Forecast Map Window, the user would have to set time zone overrides for the HEC-MetVue Output Map Window(s).

The user can also apply the time zone overrides in the setup module especially so that they carry over to new forecasts. The user would have to create the results Map Windows manually in the setup Module to match the output dataset's name from the alternative editor and append the alternative's key. For example if the output dataset name in the HEC-MetVue Alternative Editor is called "Precip" and the alternative key is "N", the user should name the results Map Window "Precip (N)".
CWMS-2057Resolved
HEC-MetVue Computed Output Temperature Dataset doesn't cover entire extents of the clipping polygonHEC-MetvueIssue: Handling of SHG gridded output dataset clipping sometime clips just inside the input basin shapefile and results with a few missing grid cell values along the basin perimeter.

Workaround: Use ArcGIS to create a buffered version of the basin shapefile. Use a buffer of 5000 meters.

HEC-HMS results plots and summary table are not updating when forecast is re-runHEC-HMSWithin a CWMS Forecast, the HMS Result Plots and Summary Tables are not updating when the Forecast is re-run.

Workaround:

Close and re-open the results.

Issue fixed in HEC-HMS 4.13

HEC-FIA is looking for RAS HDF file in Forecast folder not WatershedHEC-FIAWhen a new FDR RAS HDF Forecast is created, within the HEC-FIA inundation configuration the HEC-RAS terrain is incorrectly set to the forecast folder, instead of the watershed folder. This causes the HEC-FIA alternative to fail the compute.

Workaround: Open the HEC-FIA alternative from the modeling tab and update the terrain path within the HEC-FIA inundation configuration.
CWMS-2223In Progress
Forecast Results not Visible in HEC-FIA for a Grids-Only ComputeHEC-FIAThe result reports of a successful HEC-FIA Grid Only Alternative simulation are only available to view from the CAVI, and not within HEC-FIA.

Work-around is to make sure to view the reports from within the CAVI.

Failure to load RAS Plugin after 50 AttemptsHEC-RASUser cannot (and never was able to previously) launch HEC-RAS 6.6 from the CAVI, and encounters the error "Failed to find RAS Server. RAS Plugin not Loaded"

Solution: First confirm that HEC-RAS 6.6 has been installed on the user's machine. If HEC-RAS 6.6 is installed but the error persists, have an Admin run _Register_New_RAS_and_RASMapper_Files.bat (The .bat file is located within the HEC-RAS 6.6 install directory)

Error 10000 or the program will be unresponsive when migrating to HEC-HMS 4.12HEC-HMSHEC-HMS changed the way it handled the GIS datasets created when pre-processing the terrain to delineate subbasins. When a terrain dataset is added to a project, a copy is saved to the model's Terrain folder. The terrain pre-processing files, like flow direction and flow accumulation, are saved in the model's GIS folder. An error will happen when migrating to version 4.12 if someone manually deleted the terrain files but left behind the terrain pre-processing files.

You can work around this issue by copying the terrain back into the Terrain folder (using the same name as the terrain in the project's *.terrain file). You can copy the elevation .tif file from the GIS directory, place it into the Terrain folder, and rename it.

This issue has been fixed in HEC-HMS 4.13.

Ensemble Forecast Run Requires Member Range EnteredEnsembleWhen Creating an Ensemble Forecast Run, the Ensemble Members entry cannot be left blank. A range of ensemble members is required, even if all the ensemble members are intended to be used.

Directory field for saving a copy of a CAVI Forecast Run should not be displayedCAVIWhen using the Save As menu option in the Forecast Run Editor, a directory field is included in the save as dialog. This should not be viewable/editable by the user and has been removed for CWMS 3.6CWMS-2145Resolved
CWMS - HEC-RAS geometry overwritten when selecting second planHEC-RASIssue: When a CWMS Forecast Run has two HEC-RAS alternatives in the program order that contain different geometries, the second geometry can be overwritten by the first if the user does not wait until the geometry completely loads.

Workaround: When switching between the two HEC-RAS Geometries, the user must wait to open the geometry until the second HEC-RAS Plan finishes loading (The spinning loading icon disappears). If the user tries to open the HEC-RAS geometry before loading is finished the overwrite may occur.

CWBI Auth URL not Removed after creation of New Data SourceLoginAfter creating a new Data Source with OpenID CWBI, when creating another Data Source in the same session, the Auth URL is not removed.

Workaround for CWMS 3.5 - After creating a new Data Source, make sure to close the Data Source Setup before creating a second Data Source.

Compute Manager does not respect Compute Through optionCAVIIf using the Compute Manager to run CAVI forecast, the "Compute Through" option is not acknowledged. So if you set a "Compute Through" option in the CAVI and then compute via the compute manager, the CAVI will compute past the "Compute Through" option.

CDA "Add to Group" Post does not default to proper post formatCDA, Extract/PostWhen doing a CDA Post, the formatting using "Add To Group" to add data is not defaulting to the correct format. Once you add to group, the "To CWMS Data API" is a slash (/) separator while CDA requires a dot (.) separator. You have to go through the process of linking in CDA to be in the proper format.
A tutorial (Setting Up a Post Group) can be found in the CWMS Tutorials and Guides Section.

CWMS-2110Future Version
CAVI Save As and HEC-HMS Save As not always responding as expectedHEC-HMSWhen using "Save to base" from a forecast, there is a chance that an empty DSS file was copied from the forecast to the main forecast. Then when doing a "Save Watershed As" feature of the CAVI, these empty DSS files lose their relative paths to absolute paths.

Since the "Save to Base" has a good potential for negatively impacting base model files, this feature has been removed for CWMS 3.5 for HEC-HMS

This should not be an operational issue for CWMS users as these values are usually an extract to the forecast.dss file but might cause the HEC-HMS File Reference Dialog to popup with missing references (if the original gets deleted or the model is then handed off to someone else).

It is recommended that the HEC-HMS model is fully operational from the standalone application (including observed data). If this recommendation is followed, this should not be an issue.

Automatic Generation of Stored Maps during Compute Fails if Alternative Terrain is SelectedHEC-RASIf the user specifies an alternative terrain for the Saved Maps (such as Max Depth), in RAS Mapper (IE a re-sampled terrain different than the terrain used for computations) then the Saved Maps won't be automatically created during the compute even if the Floodplain Mapping Box was checked for the simulation.

Workaround: After simulation finishes computing, open RAS Mapper and manually compute/update stored maps. This is good practice anyway for the modeler to review output from HEC-RAS before saving the stored maps to disk.
CWMS-1281Future Version
Add Flow-Diversion as Available Model Linking ParameterHEC-HMS, Model LinkingFlow-Diversion and Flow-Combine HEC-HMS parameters are not available within the Model Linking Editor to link from HEC-HMS to other models (such as HEC-RAS).

The recommended work-around is to add a junction in the HEC-HMS model to "collect" the Flow-Diversion from the Diversion element. The flow from the new junction can then be linked in the Model Linking Editor to HEC-RAS. The same approach could be used for Flow-Combine locations if necessary.

This ability has never been supported in CWMS, but will be investigated for inclusion in a future release.

HEC-ResSim Compute Fails when Period Average Data is used by variables in the OSI.

A compute message like the following is generated; however, the compute will actually run when clicking compute a second time. For now, the work around is to make sure input time-series for OSI variables is INST-VAL.

Error in TSRecord.loadTSData.  Input timeseries //RES-A/FLOW-IN//1HOUR/INPUT/.  Period Average Data can not be interpolated as Instantaneous data
ResSim ERROR: Failed to load time-series records
ResSim ERROR: Failed to compute cumulative local flows

CWMS-1913

FUTURE VERSION

Missing Time Series Warning in the Alternative Editor

When the user launches the Alternative Editor, user may get a warning message that there are missing time series that need input even though the table is complete. This warning message will appear if there is missing time series in any of the variants.

As long as the CWMS Time Series table is complete, the user can disregard the warning message. It will not affect their CWMS runs.

FUTURE VERSION

OSI graphical plot does not always update to show overrides

For some time series, graphical display with overrides is not updating if user draws it in or enters it into the table.

Workaround: Select "Refresh Plot" in the OSI

FUTURE VERSION

OSI Observed Data

When observed time series are used within OSI, modelers are responsible for ensuring the referenced time series use the correct time step and data type (period average or instantaneous) to be consistent with the alternative.

Users should be aware of why they may get a warning related to observed data and understand how to address: update the reference data.

HEC-ResSim 3.5 Known Issues

CWMS-1937

NA - no change planned.

Computing Local Flow and Compute Holdouts Don't Mix!

Within the same HEC-ResSim 3.5.1 alternative it has been determined that checking the Compute Holdouts checkbox will cause HEC-ResSim to not correctly calculate local flows. This is observed in two situations.

  1. If the Compute Holdouts checkbox is selected, the "Calculate All Locals" and "Calculate Selected Locals" Buttons in the OSI will not correctly calculate local flows.
  2. If the Compute Holdouts checkbox is selected, Local Flows downstream of reservoirs within the HEC-ResSim alternative will be set to zero.

Workaround: Make sure to turn off "Compute Holdouts" before calculating Local Flows. The ResSim team is working on addressing this issue.
