There are several reports available to view HEC-ResSim results – release decision reports, summary results reports, user created reports, network reports, and advanced reports. See the HEC-ResSim User's Manual for more detail on these options.

Accessing Reports from the Watershed Pane

You can access HEC-ResSim reports within the CAVI from the Watershed Pane when the Modeling module is active.

  1. Select the HEC-ResSim alternative you are interested in and click on the Reports tab.
  2. Choose the appropriate Summary Report you want to open.

Release Decision Report

The Release Decision Report provides the release decision information that HEC-ResSim computed during the simulation, based on operational rules and physical constraints defined in the HEC-ResSim watershed model. In addition, the report displays the forecast run name and time window information. The Release Decision Report displays the reservoir's Active Zone Elevation and Net Inflow for each timestep of the simulation. It also provides the Active Rule and Calculated Release for the reservoir pool, dam, and outlets for each timestep.

Release Decision Report

You can view a different reservoir's report or change the time window for the information being displayed. Under the Options menu, choose Edit Options and the Release Decision Report Options dialog will open. You can change the reservoir by using the Reservoir drop-down list and specify a different time window by selecting the Specify option and entering the start and end dates.

Results Summary Reports

The results summary reports provide information for reservoirs, flow locations, hydropower facilities, and gates. Each report displays the average, maximum, and minimum values for the forecast simulation.

Reservoir Summary Report

This report summarizes the reservoirs for the active forecast run. These results include the storage, elevation, controlled release, and uncontrolled spill parameters for each reservoir.

Reservoir Summary Report

Flow Summary Report

This report summarizes the flow at reservoirs and non-reservoir locations for the active forecast run. These results include the regulated flow, unregulated flow, and cumulative local flow for each location.

Flow Summary Report

Stage Summary Report

This report summarizes the stage at reservoirs and non-reservoir locations for the active forecast run. These results include the regulated stage, unregulated stage, and cumulative local stage for each location. If the appropriate data has not been entered (rating curves) this report will be blank.

Stage Summary Report

Power Summary Report

This report summarizes the hydropower information at a reservoir for the active forecast run. These results include generation efficiency, power head, hydraulic losses, energy generated per time step, power generated, plant factor, and flow power for each power plant. If the appropriate data (hydropower plant) has not been entered, this report will be blank.

Power Summary Report

Gate Summary Report

This report summarizes the gates defined for the reservoirs in the active forecast run. If the appropriate data has not been entered, this report will be blank.

Accessing Graphical Results

Graphical results for HEC-ResSim model runs are available from the network components for the active forecast run within the Map Window in the Modeling module. These network components include reservoirs, routing reaches, diverted outlets, junctions, and diversions.

Reservoirs

To view the graphical results for a HEC-ResSim reservoir element:

  1. Within the Modeling module, zoom-in on an area where there is a HEC-ResSim reservoir on the Map Window.
  2. With the Pointer Tool selected, right-click on the HEC-ResSim reservoir. The polygon and storage reach which will now be highlighted in yellow. From the shortcut menu, choose one of the available options.
    Reservoir Element Shortcut Menu
  3. If the active forecast run contains HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and/or HEC-FIA model alternatives and their results overlap the HEC-ResSim results, the shortcut menu will reflect this. Therefore, the shortcut menu could contain items for the other software packages.
  4. Depending on which option you chose from the shortcut menu, the appropriate plot dialog will open. A few different examples are shown below.
    Various Reservoir Plot Dialogs

Routing Reaches

To view the graphical results for a HEC-ResSim routing reach element:

  1. Within the Modeling module, zoom-in on an area where there is a HEC-ResSim routing reach on the Map window.
  2. With the Pointer Tool selected, right-click on the HEC-ResSim routing reach. It will now be highlighted in yellow. From the shortcut menu, click Plot.
    Routing Reach Element Shortcut Menu
  3. If the active forecast run contains HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and/or HEC-FIA model alternatives and their results overlap the HEC-ResSim results, the shortcut menu will reflect this. Therefore, the shortcut menu could contain items for the other software packages.
  4. The Plot dialog will open, displaying the graphical results for the routing reach.

Diverted Outlets

To view the graphical results for a HEC-ResSim diverted outlet element:

  1. Within the Modeling module, zoom-in on an area where there is a HEC-ResSim diverted outlet on the Map window.
  2. With the Pointer Tool selected, right-click on the HEC-ResSim diverted outlet. It will now be highlighted in yellow. From the shortcut menu, click Plot.
    Diverted Outlet Element Shortcut Menu
  3. The Default Plot dialog window will open, displaying the graphical results for the diverted outlet.
    Diverted Outlet Plot Dialog

Junctions

To view the graphical results for a HEC-ResSim junction element:

  1. Within the Modeling module, zoom-in on an area where there is a HEC-ResSim junction on the Map window.
  2. With the Pointer Tool selected, right-click on the HEC-ResSim junction. It will now be highlighted in yellow. From the shortcut menu, click Plot or Plot Inflow/Outflow.
    Junction Element Shortcut Menu
  3. If the active forecast run contains HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and/or HEC-FIA model alternatives and their results overlap the HEC-ResSim results, the shortcut menu will reflect this. Therefore, the shortcut menu could contain items for the other software packages.
  4. You can see the different plot dialogs associated with the junction elements below.
    Various Junction Plot Options

User-Defined Plots

User-defined plots are only available from a HEC-ResSim model alternative, and therefore are only for displaying HEC-ResSim results. User-defined plots can be created from any default HEC-ResSim plot. For more information about user-defined plots, see the HEC-ResSim User's Manual.

The following steps are an example of how to create a user-defined plot:

  1. From the Plot Properties dialog for a junction, remove the Flow-CUMLOC curve.
    Plot Properties Dialog
  2. The new plot now only contains the flow for a junction.
    Revised Plot - Junction Location
  3. From the File menu, click Save Template. The Export Plot Template dialog will open.
    Export Plot Template Dialog
  4. You have the choice of making this user-defined plot available to all applications, this watershed only, all users watersheds, or all users. In the example above, this user-defined plot will only be available to the watershed that is currently open because This Watershed only has been selected.
  5. Type a name for the user-defined plot in the Name field. RegulatedFlow has been entered for the name in this example. Click OK, and the Export Plot Template dialog closes.

To apply a user-defined plot, open a plot dialog and click Apply Template under the File menu.

Live Display

Enabling the Live Display option causes HEC-ResSim results plots to update automatically when a HEC-ResSim alternative is recomputed. To enable this option, open a HEC-ResSim graphical results plot and select the Live Display option from the View menu as shown below.
