Background
In this , you will be introduced to the HEC-MetVue (Meteorological Visualization Utility Engine) program. HEC-MetVue supports real-time forecasting and dam safety analyses. HEC-MetVue can ingest a variety of meteorologic variables (such as precipitation, temperature, and snow), as well as gridded data set formats and geographic projections. HEC-MetVue allows for the display, verification, and editing of spatial data through interactive and visual means. It is designed to process and edit precipitation and other meteorological data sets with operations including: spatial extents trimming, spatial and temporal translation, scaling and resizing, and animations.
One of the primary functions of HEC-MetVue is the development of design storms, including standard frequency events and probable maximum storms. These events can be used as input to rainfall runoff models such as HEC-HMS (Hydrologic Modeling System) for use in dam safety studies. Another primary function of HEC-MetVue is the calibration of radar observed precipitation data sets and to merge them with forecast precipitation as inputs for real-time hydrologic modeling through the USACE water management decision-support system, the Corps Water Management System (CWMS).
Overview
HEC-MetVue Sessions are the work area for the user to organize work units (Map Windows). The organization of Sessions and Map Windows in HEC-MetVue is up to user preferences or application needs. For example, HEC-MetVue Sessions can be organized based on geographic regions or watersheds and can have different Map Windows based on the various data sources. Any session can have one or more map windows associated with it. Map windows contain the information that the user views and edits.
