These OpenDCS Release Notes are to help USACE System Administrators and CWMS users be aware of issues and changes in recent OpenDCS versions for USACE servers. 


Older versions of this page can be accessed by clicking the drop-down in the top right corner of this page.  USACE CWMS Servers have a prepackaged OpenDCS versions pushed to their servers by HEC.  OpenDCS is an open source software that is used by various government agencies, including but not limited to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR), and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and USACE.  Districts should use the latest release that HEC recommends (listed below).   Version 6.8.14 is still supported.  Ideally, Districts are keeping up to date with the latest versions.  OpenDCS is a suite of software for collecting, decoding, storing and manipulating time series data.  See side pages for further information and references specific to OpenDCS on USACE servers.

OpenDCS 7.0.13/7.0.14 (Oct/Nov 2024) - Not Recommended

  • Major End-User Additions/Fixes

    • Documentation Overhaul

    • Annotations for Algorithms

    • Sorting issues fixes in GUI

    • Reverse Rating algorithm for CWMS
    • Launcher profile fix
    • Under the hood - Update dependencies to address vulnerabilities, removal of dead files, UI clean up, continuous clean-up

  • Known Issues:

    • Continuous Routing Scheduler Issues - Being addressed

    • Install bundle - NOTE - if District does not use python algorithms - this issue is mute.

  • Potential Server Install/Configurations Notes

  • Major End-User Additions/Fixes

    • Refactor/comp depends improvements

    • Updates to logging

  • Known Issues:

    • Still Some GUI lists that don't handle sorting correctly (please open an issue on GitHub)

    • The routing scheduler in unstable.  Tends to survive 3-4 days and fully crash on failure instead of getting to an effectively deadlocked state

    • DECODES configuration edits are not instantly reflected in routing specs
    • Slow Client loading/opening

OpenDCS 7.0.11 (Dec 2023) - Not Recommended

    • Fix invalid DecodesScript format from not getting read back into the GUIs. 

  • Known Issues

    • dcstool_start/launcher_start application still misbehaving for unknown reasons

    • Routing scheduler issue

OpenDCS 7.0.8 (Jun 2023) - Not Recommended

    • Fix bug for lrgsdatasource failure

    • Dependency report in reports folder

  • Known Issues:
    • Sorting Issues & Time Zone Issues
    • Routing scheduler issues

OpenDCS 6.8.14 (Sep 2021) - Supported

  • This version is still supported

  • Routing scheduler is stable
