The Forecast Scheduler automates the creation and execution of forecasts at specific intervals for a set duration (up to indefinitely). You can access the Forecast Scheduler from the Forecast menu in the Modeling Tab as shown below.

Forecast Scheduler

Configuration Settings

  • Forecast Name: The designated name for the new forecast.
  • Forecast Date/Time: The date and time of the forecast.
  • Use Forecast Time for Forecast Name: When checked, the forecast name will be automatically generated based on the forecast time (default behavior for manual forecasts).

  • Extract Start: The lead time before the Forecast Date/Time at which data extraction begins.
  • Start Time: The duration before the Forecast Date/Time for model computation (the observed period).
  • End Time: The duration after the Forecast Date/Time for model computation (the forecast period).
  • Start Delay: An optional delay for the computation start. The model will use the original Forecast Date/Time but process it at a later time.

  • Forecast Selection: Select one or more available forecast runs from the active watershed to include in the schedule.

  • Single Forecast: Schedules a one-time forecast fora specific future date.
    • Repeat every: Enables high-frequency automation by regenerating the forecast at a set interval of minutes or hours.
    • Expires On: Sets a definitive end date and time for a repeated forecast. If this is left unchecked, the forecast will continue to run indefinitely, even after the event has ended.
  • Recurring Forecast: Configures the forecast to run at standard operational intervals, such as Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.

  • Post Results: Automatically triggers the post-processing routine if default values are configured.
  • Archive Forecast: Automatically archives the forecast once the compute is complete.
  • Close CAVI when Forecast Completes: Closes the HEC-RTS interface automatically after the compute finishes.

Scheduling Modes

The scheduler offers two primary methods for automation based on your operational needs: Single Forecasts and Recurring Forecasts.

Refer to the table below to see how these options differ and which might work best for you.

Single ForecastsRecurring Forecasts
Best ForShort-duration, high-frequency eventsRoutine, long-term operations

Example

Hourly runs during a specific flood eventDaily or weekly forecast runs
IntervalMinutes or HoursDaily, Weekly, or Monthly
ExpirationOptional "Expires On" date/timeSet via the recurring schedule

Scheduled Forecast Manager

The Scheduled Forecast Manager is the central hub for monitoring and organizing your automated tasks. It displays the Forecast Name, Forecast Time, Forecast Runs, and Type (Single or Recurring).

Available Tools

  • Edit: Opens the Forecast Scheduler to modify existing tasks.
  • Status: Displays detailed metadata, including folder paths, host name, task name, next scheduled run time, current status, and logon mode.
  • Delete: Permanently removes the selected scheduled forecast.
