To create a new meteorological dataset:

  • From the ResSim main window, go to the Water Quality module, then from the Water Quality menu, click Meteorological Data. This will open the Meteorological Dataset Editor.

  • In the Meteorological Dataset Editor, go to the Met Dataset menu, and click the New menu command. This will open the Create New Meteorological Dataset dialog (Create New Meteorological Dataset Dialog Box).

  • In the Create New Meteorological Dataset dialog, enter a name for the dataset in the Name field (e.g., Met_Dataset1 as shown in Figure 3.18). You can also provide a description in the Description field (Create New Meteorological Dataset – Example).

To configure the Active and Inactive Met Stations for the new meteorological dataset:

  1. Below the Description field in the Create New Meteorological Dataset dialog, you will find two selector panels:

    • Inactive Met Stations panel: Lists all available meteorological stations.
    • Active Met Stations panel: Lists the currently selected met stations for the dataset.
  2. The stations are displayed in alphanumeric order in both panels.

  3. By default, the Active Met Stations panel includes all the met stations in the watershed (e.g., Dry Ck Mouth, DryCk_10, Lake Mendocino Outflow, MCk_DCk, Sanel Valley, Windsor Gage, Yoakim Bridge).

  4. To manage the active stations:

    • From the Active Met Stations panel, select the stations you want to remove and move to the Inactive Met Stations panel.
    • Click Remove to set the selected stations as Inactive.
  5. Once you've selected the active met stations, click OK to close the Create New Meteorological Dataset dialog and save the new dataset. This dataset will now appear in the met dataset navigation bar in the Meteorological Dataset Editor

  6. If you set all meteorological stations as inactive (e.g., by clicking Remove All) and attempt to click OK, a Warning message dialog will appear. This message alerts you that at least one active met station is required for the meteorological dataset. Click OK on the warning, then return to the Create New Meteorological Dataset dialog, add at least one station to the Active Met Stations list, and click OK to save the dataset.

When you click OK in the Create New Meteorological Dataset dialog, the system will check if the entered dataset name is unique. If the name already exists, a Warning message dialog will appear (Warning Message Dialog – Enter a Unique Meteorological Dataset Name), notifying you that the dataset name must be unique. In the Warning message dialog, click OK. Return to the Create New Meteorological Dataset dialog, enter a new unique name in the Name field, and then click OK to save the dataset.

The Create New Meteorological Dataset dialog will close. The newly created dataset will be added to the meteorological dataset navigation bar in the Meteorological Dataset Editor. The dataset will also automatically appear in the map window schematic in the ResSim main window. From the Met Dataset dropdown in the module data, the newly created dataset (e.g., Met_Dataset1) will be automatically selected. You can either click OK to close the Meteorological Dataset Editor or proceed to define the meteorological input data.
