Record data can be copied from tables in HEC-DSSVue.  Record data can also be edited by switching on the Allow Editing option in the Edit menu of the table.  Then, from the context menu of highlighted cells, available edit selections include Cut, Copy, Paste, Clear, etc...  Once edits are made to DSS data, the modified records can be Saved to the same record pathnames or Saved As a new record pathnames.  Also, changes can be discarded by simply closing the modified table and choosing not to save changes.  In addition, data from another program, such as Excel or Notepad, can be copied and pasted into DSS tables.

Task 1. Single value edits

  1. Open the DSS file Sample.dss
  2. Tabulate the following record pathnames in two separate tables:
    /GREEN RIVER/GLENFIR/FLOW/01APR1992/1HOUR/OBS/
    /MYBASIN/RIVERSIDE/FLOW/01APR1990/1HOUR/OBS/
  3. Activate the Allow Editing option from the Edit menu of the “GREEN RIVER” record Table.
  4. You can now directly modify the contents of any cell. Click on the first cell with flow value “2411.0” and change it to “2500”.
  5. You can also enter new values at the end of the table, which automatically appends two extra rows during edit mode (when Allow Editing is on).

Task 2. Multi value edits

In addition, you can select several consecutive cells, cut or copy their contents, then paste them into other cells.  Refer to the figures below for the following tasks.

  1. Highlight the first 11 flow values under the flow column in the “GREEN RIVER” table, and from the context menu, select Cut.
  2. Switch to the “MY BASIN” table and turn on the Allow Editing option.
  3. Paste the data over the first 11 values under the flow column. You must highlight the 11 data cells that you wish to paste into before selecting Paste from the popup menu
  4. Next, highlight the 11 flow values you’ve just pasted into the “MY BASIN” table
  5. Copy these values and Paste them back into the “GREEN RIVER” table.
  6. Then, highlight the top 12 cells of the flow column in the “MY BASIN” table and Clear
  7. Now select the entire column of data (excluding the units and type) of the GREEN RIVER Select the Fill menu option and multiply the data by 0.0283 to change it from CFS to CMS (cubic feet to cubic meters).  Change the units to match your conversion, and then save both data sets.
