This Workshop assumes a familiarity with CDEC (http://cdec.water.ca.gov/) (The California Data Exchange Center), its website, and its data.
CDEC (http://cdec.water.ca.gov/), The California Data Exchange Center, is a database for California water resources data.
Import data from CDEC use
Open DssVue
Open the DSS File to import the data into
To begin import select Data Entry > Import > CDEC (Web)
Choose a couple of sites and import them using the screenshot below as a guide
Note all of the information can be found via the " DCEC station search" or under the " station Meta data" found here Station Meta Data Lookup (ca.gov)
Enter the 3 letter station ID
Important: For the CDEC Station ID make sure to use ALL CAPS
Fill in Part A as your naming convention requires
Part B will auto fill with the 3-letter station identifier
Enter the sensor number of the data you wish to use under "sensor number"
Part C will auto fill with the corresponding name of the sensor data
Use the pull down to enter duration for the station sensor
The F part will auto fill with CDEC
Ensure the "Get Data" box to the left of your station is checked
Select the Get Data button to retrieve the data
If filled out correctly, you will see a download message displaying the number of data sets retrieved.
It will show up in your DSSVue window.
Save your DSSVue File to save the data to that DSS file
You can also save the site list using File > Save for future use.
Select File > Save to save out your list of CDEC stations, Sensor Numbers, and Duration Codes.
*Bonus: Additional ways to discover the needed information
In order to determine which sites are available take a look at the CDEC website (http://cdec.water.ca.gov/) you should find a way to search for locations either by searching names or my browsing the map. See if you can figure out how to navigate the website to determine which Sensor Types and Durations codes to use for any site you choose.
Be sure you are using an appropriate start and end date for the site you choose.
