GIS data can be added to an EFMSim project for visualization purposes as basemaps, map layers, or aerial imagery. Basemaps are added via the EFMSim Settings – Add Base Map… menu option. All basemaps are displayed for all layouts. Aerial imagery is added via the EFMSim Settings – Aerial Imagery menu option. Several web mapping options are offered including Bing Aerial Maps and Google Satellite. Aerial imagery is not compatible and cannot be used with the generic X-Y coordinate system. Map layers are added via the Layout Map – Maps – Add Map Layer menu option. EFMSim supports use of eight formats for map layers. Map layers added are associated with individual layouts. If a map layer is desired for viewing for all layouts, it should be imported as a basemap. If a map layer is desired for a selection of layouts, it must be imported separately for each of the relevant layouts.
Symbology for basemaps and map layers, as well as model-oriented features such as study area, elements, roads, and hatchery zones, is managed through the Layer Selection window. Right clicking on the item and selecting the Properties menu option will open an interface that allows update of symbology. There are two basic options, polygons and polylines. Symbology for polygons consists of line and fill styles. Symbology for polylines consists of line styles (Figure).
