Flood Damages Reduced New Features

New Holdout - RAS HDF Inundation Configuration

A new inundation configuration was created to provide more flexibility in the computation of flood damages reduced. This new compute is intended for use in watersheds with large leveed areas, or leveed areas with complex hydraulics where the current without levee damage estimations in HEC-FIA are not appropriate. Instead of accepting only 2 hydraulic inputs, regulated and unregulated, this configuration accepts 2 additional hydraulic inputs for the regulated without levee and the unregulated without conditions. This allows a user to compute the without levee hydraulics in HEC-RAS, instead of relying on the without levee estimation in HEC-FIA.

In order to reduce compute time and storage needs, this inundation configuration accepts native HDF5 HEC-RAS outputs for the four scenarios. Hovering over the input titles (Regulated HDF, Regulated Without Levee HDF, etc) provides the user with additional information to help select the associated .hdf file.

RAS Mapper Beta Feature

A new beta feature is available for testing that allows a user to launch an abbreviated version of  HEC-RAS Mapper from within HEC-FIA. The feature will allow users to more easily perform quality control on their HEC-FIA results by comparing against HEC-RAS inundations. HEC-FIA will gather all the inputs from the inundation configuration event, and the HEC-FIA results to display them in HEC-RAS Mapper.

This feature is included by default in v3.3.  This feature is accessed through right-clicking the computed simulation of a Holdout - RAS HDF Inundation Configuration and selecting the Beta labeled menu item.  If desired to remove the new feature, edit the HEC-FIA.config file, and set the 'vmparam -Dras.launch.mapper.beta=false'.

For HEC-FIA results to display in the RAS Mapper launched from within HEC-FIA, the HEC-RAS inundations must be from HEC-RAS 6.1 or newer.

ReleaseDateFeaturesBug Fixes

beta.1

  • Initial beta release

beta.2

  • Holdout-RAS-HDF inundation configuration added

beta.3

  • View results in RAS Mapper added
  • Tooltip helping user choose which RAS output to select for the Holdout RAS HDF configuration
  • Name of new Inundation Configuration changed to "Holdout-RAS HDF"
  • Better error messaging provided if HDF configuration compute fails
beta.4

  • Fixed bug that prevented the Warning Issuance Editor to open.
  • Fixed error that caused a "Holdout RAS HDF" inundation configuration compute to fail.
beta.5

  • In the Main Toolbar, replaced Help > User Manual with a link to the online HEC-FIA Documentation Page.
  • Fixed bug when attempting to launch RAS Mapper from non-supported inundation configuration
  • Fixed bug that allowed user to open HEC-FIA 3.0 project in HEC-FIA 3.3. User is now directed to open the HEC-FIA 3.0 project in HEC-FIA 3.2.1 or older to proceed.
  • Urban and Agricultural Price Index within Emergency Planning Zones updated to allow the user to use three decimal points in calculations. Previously the Price Index was automatically rounded to two decimal points after entry.
