Population Distribution

HEC-FIA distributes population data from FEMA's HAZUS database over an existing structure inventory (Appendix A, Section A.1). This data is readily available from sources like FEMA's HAZUS. HEC-FIA has an import tool that can be used to assign population characteristics directly from a HAZUS database to each structure in a structure inventory. HAZUS data is available at no cost from the FEMA website (http://www.fema.gov/hazus).

The distribution of population over the structure inventory is required for life loss calculations (Life Loss). The following sections detail the inputs required for the distribution computations, the computational procedures, and the outputs produced from the computations. Alternatively, the user can manually distribute population on the structure inventories.
