If a file is encountered that HEC-MetVue cannot read, it will be possible to review the contents of the file through a right-click on the TIN File Node, as shown in below. This will show the listing of all variables and metadata in the file. This will help in defining fields in in the Data Format Resource Editor. In addition, the “Show Provider Parsing Results” option will present the data that was parsed, and what information is still needed to properly parse the file. Between the file contents viewer and the parsing results report, there should be sufficient information to fill out a product entry in the Multi Data Resource Editor and read the data.

The TIN File Contents Report is also below. This figure shows the example for a Weather Prediction Center (WPC) Quantitative Precipitation Forecast (QPF). In this file, the variable of interest is “Total_precipitation_surface_layer_6_Hour_Accumulation”. Note that the “Variable Name” field in the Multi-Data Resource Editor contains the long_name (Total precipitation (3_Hour Accumulation) @ Ground or water surface). In general, the long_name is more specific, and should be used to when available. If this variable name itself is used, HEC-MetVue will still find the variable.
