Selecting Model Alternative Keys
The Model Alternative Key is an alpha-numeric identifier that will determine the names of your forecast runs. It is good practice to try to assign model alternative keys that describe or represent the model alternative.
For example, the Eau Galle River watershed has two MetVue alternatives–NoQPF and QPF. The NoQPF alternative does not include any forecast precipitation while the QPF alternative includes seven days of forecast precipitation. Therefore, the Model Alternative Keys were set as 0 for the NoQPF and 7 for the QPF alternatives, representing 0- and 7-days of forecast precipitation, respectively.
Other examples of potential MetVue Alternative Keys include:
| ID | Alternative Name |
|---|
| N | No future precipitation |
| 2 | 2-inches future precipitation |
| 4 | 4-inches future precipitation |
| Q | QPF |
Assign Model Alternative Keys
To assign the MetVue Model Alternative Keys, open the CAVI window within the Setup tab, select Models → Model Alternative Keys.

Select MetVue from the plugin drop-down menu and enter 0 for the NoQPF alternative and 7 for the QPF alternative, respectively.

Select Apply, then OK to exit the dialog.
Notice that the newly-assigned model alternative keys have been added in parentheses next to the MetVue alternatives listed within the explorer window.
