You will need HEC-SSP version 2.4 beta.1 or newer and HEC-Neptune version alpha or newer to complete this tutorial.

Overview

In this workshop, you will become familiar with the Copula Analysis and apply it to an interior drainage study. This workshop uses the same study area as this Coincident Frequency Analysis tutorial. Before starting the workshop, read the User's Manual section on the Copula Analysis to understand the advantages of copulas over coincident frequency.

Background

A levee is proposed to protect Philippi, WV from excessive stages on the Tygart River. The levee will block the Tygart River flows from reaching the city of Philippi, but will also block the interior runoff in Phillippi from draining to the river. A pond and pump station are needed to collect and detain the interior runoff and move it through/over the levee into the Tygart River. We will use data from a precipitation station on the interior of the levee and from a streamflow gage along the Tygart River. The location of the precipitation station and streamflow gage are shown in the image below.
