Reported problems with previous versions can be seen by choosing the Versions drop down in the upper right corner of this page.
HEC-RAS 6.6
Install package uninstalls Version 6.5 | Installation of HEC-RAS 6.6 removes Version 6.5. Workaround: Reinstall version 6.5. | RESOLVED |
2D Perimeter Polygon Disappearing | The polygons for the perimeters of 2D areas are disappearing in unique cases. Symptoms you might notice are that the mesh does not update when adding new points in an edit session, the polygon is not selectable in Mapper, or simulations failing during Writing Geometry stage. Workaround: Keep a perimeter polygon on hand to paste in to the Perimeters layer if the polygon disappears. | IN PROGRESS |
Export Layer → As Line Contours Not Producing Line Contours | For some terrains and tif files, doing Export Layer → As Line Contours is not producing any vector lines. The vector contour algorithm can only handle so many lines at once, if there are too many lines it will fail. Workaround: Use a bigger cell size or a bigger interval when making vector contours. | FUTURE VERSION |
Import Shapefile to Line Modification Unhandled Exception | When importing polylines from shapefile to the Line Terrain Modification, the features are not properly saved. Therefore, if you attempt to immediately edit the line, an "Unhandled Exception" error message is shown. Workaround: Stop Editing and Start Editing. | RESOLVED |
Missing Individual Gate Group Flow and Opening Line Series in Hydrograph Plot | Normally you could plot an individual gate group's flow and opening in the Hydrograph plotter by selecting the appropriate gate group in Options → Variables. However in 6.6 the individual gate groups do not appear in this list. Workaround: Plot individual gate group flows and opening the same way in HEC-RAS 6.5 instead for now. | RESOLVED |
Hydraulic Property Table Plot Crashes | Normally pressing the hydraulic property table plot button on the main HEC-RAS window will show a cross section plot along with conveyance and area property tables. Currently if the current plan's geometry does not have a terrain associated with it, the hydraulic property table plot button will not work. Workaround: Associate a terrain to the geometry with the problem. Can associate an empty terrain as a work around. | RESOLVED |
Classification Polygons Disappearing After Doing "Generate New Classification Layer" | The "Generate New Classification Layer" tool takes an existing classification layer, such as a landcover layer, and makes a new classification layer, with options to clip, change cell size, and rasterize classifications polygons. Users who do not rasterize classification polygons will have the polygons from the source classification layer brought over to the new classification layer. The classifications polygons in the new layer may disappear after closing and re-opening RAS Mapper. Workaround: After using the "Generate New Classification Layer" tool, manually start and stop editing the classification polygons layer of the new classification layer. Make sure to save the layer when stopping the edit session. | RESOLVED |
Importing Mesh Takes Too Long | Sometimes it may take longer than expected to import a mesh using the Import Mesh feature introduced in version 6.6. For reference, 500,000 cell mesh should take about 2-3 seconds to import. Workaround: In the treeview in RAS Mapper, turn off all layers, then do the import. | RESOLVED |
Cannot Import Meshes from Results/Older Versions of HEC-RAS | Trying to import a mesh using the Import Mesh feature introduced in version 6.6 will not work with plan results files, and may not work with older geometry files. Older geometry files do not work because they may be mistakenly labeled as HEC-RAS Results for the file type attribute on the root of the file. Workaround: Re-save the geometry in the older version of HEC-RAS, it may re-assign the file type attribute correctly. Otherwise re-save the geometry in the latest version of HEC-RAS | RESOLVED |
Delete of Current Plan Results data when deleting another Plan | When deleting old Plans (#.p02, for example), model results for the currently open in the interface Plan (#.p01.hdf, for example) will be deleted along with #.p02 (#.p02.hdf will not be deleted). Workaround: Open the plan you wish to delete. Alternative: Create a dummy plan before deleting old plans. You will need to manually delete the associated results files (#.p02.hdf). | IN PROGRESS |
Pipe Networks (beta) - External and Culvert Openings must have 0 Base Area | A bug exists in the creation of property tables for External and Culvert Opening node types that have non-zero Base Area. This causes pipe networks to go unstable at the start of the simulation. Workaround: Set the Base Area to 0 for all External and Culvert Opening node types. | RESOLVED |
Pipe Networks (beta) - Downstream nodes with multiple upstream and 0 downstream conduits | A downstream pipe node has multiple conduits entering and none leaving can cause an error preventing the simulation from starting. Workaround: Add an additional conduit that is leaving the the node (downstream). | RESOLVED |
Pipe Networks (beta) - Drop Inlets are interfering with 2D Internal Boundary Condition Flows | When a pipe network Drop Inlet is connected to the same 2D cell as an Internal 2D Boundary Condition Line, flows entering the cell from the boundary condition are negated. Workaround : Move the internal Boundary Condition Line so to not share cells with Drop Inlets. | RESOLVED |
Pipe Networks (beta) - Error in Drop Inlet Inflow Calculations | Drop Inlet inflow calculations (weir and orifice flow) are being calculated incorrectly allowing too much water to enter the pipe network. There is no workaround. | RESOLVED |
Pipe Networks (beta) - In some instances drop inlet calculations are allowing flow into the system before surface water arrives. | A bug in in the drop inlet calculations is, in some circumstances, allowing small amounts of flow into the system prior to the surface water head exceeding the drop inlet elevation. | RESOLVED |
Pipe Networks (beta) don't work with models in metric units | When using pipe networks in metric unit models, surface connection elevations are incorrect causing bad results in the model. | RESOLVED |
Geometry pre-process error message "Cannot recompute 2D Property Tables - No Terrain is associated with this geometry". | When terrain files are not within the project folder, or in a subfolder of the project folder, users who run the geometry pre-processor will see this error message. Workaround: There are two workarounds. The first work-around is leave RAS Mapper open when doing a simulation. The geometry pre-processor will be able to find the terrain regardless of where it is relative to the project. The second work around is move the terrain files so that they are in or within the project folder. | IN PROGRESS |
DL Breach computes rapid breaching width | There seem to be several issues with the current release of the DLBreach call from HEC-RAS. We are actively working on these. | IN PROGRESS |
Sediment Transport Capacity Calculator | The sediment transport capacity calculator (in the Hydraulic Design editor) computes bad values if some of the cross sections are included in the "Sediment Reach." Workaround: Select all of the cross sections in the Sediment reach. The tool appears to work if all of the cross sections are selected. | IN PROGRESS |
1D elements are not computing infiltration losses when finite volume solution is used | 1D elements are not computing infiltration losses when the finite volume method is selected. This will result in the total precipitation entering the 1D system, not excess precipitation. | IN PROGRESS |
Unable to Import WPC - QPF data in GRIB2 format | The National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center provides 2 national gridded precipitation products in GRIB2 format: Quantitative Precipitation Estimates (QPE) and Quantitative Precipitation Forecasts (QPF). Currently, RAS is unable to import the QPF dataset due to its compression type. Workaround: Use HEC-MetVue or HEC-Vortex to convert the QPF data to DSS before use in RAS. | FUTURE VERSION |
Unable to Create Terrains from GeoTIFFs Exported from CAD Application | HEC-RAS geospatial libraries cannot determine the projection data stored in GeoTIFFs exported from a common CAD application. This results in a failure when importing the geotiff to a RAS terrain. | FUTURE VERSION |
GDAL Conflict when Opening RAS Mapper | "Error initializing the GDAL path variables. Please check HEC-RAS installation" error message is displayed when attempting to open RAS Mapper. |
1 RESOLVED - issues are fixed and will be available in the next release.
2 IN PROGRESS - issues are currently being worked on.
3 IMPROVED - the next version includes an incremental improvement but not a total fix.
4 FUTURE VERSION - this requires a structural change or major development. The team will add it to a future version if funding permits.
