Software Version

HEC-SSP version 2.3 was used to created this example.  You can open the example project with HEC-SSP 2.3 or a newer version.

Objectives

In this workshop you will fit Log Pearson Type III analytical frequency curves to an annual maximum series using Bulletin 17C (B17C) procedures.  In doing so, you will gain experience with these procedures and the way in which annual maximum series data is entered, manipulated, and used within HEC-SSP.  The following major tasks will serve as an outline for the workshop:

  1. Create a new HEC-SSP project and import an annual maximum series data set for the Big Sandy River at Bruceton, TN gaging station.
  2. Compute Log Pearson Type III parameters using only the systematic record.
  3. Compute Log Pearson Type III parameters using both the systematic record and historical information.

Spend approximately 10 minutes per task to accomplish Tasks 1 - 4 in the alloted time.  Two additional tasks can be completed, if time allows.

  • Compute Log Pearson Type III parameters using B17B methodology for the systematic record and compare against the B17C results.
  • Compute Log Pearson Type III parameters using B17B methodology for the systematic record in addition to historical information and compare against the B17C results.

Task 4 (Compute Log Pearson Type III parameters using all available data including systematic, historical, and paleoflood information) will be completed as part of a later workshop.
