The Ensemble Viewer provides the users the ability to view ensemble time series produced by the Hydrologic Ensemble Forecast System (HEFS) River Forecast Center (RFC) and Hydrologic Modeling Software (HMS) software. The viewer also has the ability to view ensemble metrics that summarize the ensembles as a single summary time series, single value for each ensemble, or as a single summary value.
Overview
The Viewer has the following components: Options Panel and a Chart tab that holds the Statistics Panel, Data View Panel, and Chart Panel. The Options panel allows the user to select an ensemble database (either SQLITE or HEC-DSS) from the File textbox. The Locations combo box allows users to choose a particular RFC forecast location and/or hydrologic variable. Hydrologic variable refers to flow, precipitation, river stage, etc. In HEC-DSS, the Location refers to the Part B and C pathname.
Three tabs currently exists: Time Series Plot, Scatter Plot, and Single Value Summary. For the Time Series Plot and Scatter Plot, the Chart Tab holds the Statistics, Data View, and Chart Panel. The Statistics Panel holds check boxes that compute either a single summary time series or single value for each ensemble. The Data View Panel displays the ensembles either in cumulative form when in the Time Series Plot or reorders the single value for each ensemble into an empirical probability distribution when in the Scatter Plot. The Chart Panel displays the ensemble either as a time series of ensembles or as a single value for each ensemble.
The Single Value Summary Tab holds a Compute Selection Panel, Compute Order Panel, and a Text Box. The Compute Selection Panel contains two combo boxes that allow users to select metrics. The Compute Order Panel allows users to select which order to perform the single value summary compute.
