14. ABSTRACT
The Hydrologic Sampler is a plug-in built for the HEC-WAT (Watershed Analysis Tool) software (refer to the HEC-WAT User's Manual). The purpose of the Hydrologic Sampler is to allow users to create hydrologic time series data necessary for a Flood Risk Analysis (FRA) compute in HEC-WAT. The FRA compute is a Monte Carlo simulation that evaluates thousands of sampled flood events within a watershed. Each flood event is initiated with a time series dataset of either flow hydrographs or precipitation hyetographs. The hydrologic sampling relies on hydrologic information such as flow or precipitation frequency curves, spatial correlations between curves, and hydrograph or hyetograph shapes, or instead, historical and synthetic event hydrographs. This hydrologic information will be sampled to generate as many realizations of the lifecycle hydrologic sequence as necessary, with each generated sequence available as input boundary conditions to the other software applications in the program sequence, such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS or HEC-ResSim.
