There are two data validation modes, the Icons mode and the List mode.

In the Icons mode, you select the time series gages that you wish to manually validate from time series icons in the map window or from the color bars in the Data Status Summary dialog.

In the validation List mode, you select a validation list file. You select the mode from the Select Data Validation Sets dialog. In addition, you can control whether a long list of time series data sets should be filtered to only include those time series data sets with specific data quality indicators. These filters are available in the Display Options group of the Select Data Validation Sets dialog.

Icons Mode

To use the Icons mode:

  1. By default, CWMS will select the datasets associated with all of the defined time series icons in the map window.
  2. If you only want a selected subset of datasets, you can simply select the time series icons you want to validate. From the map window, hold down the SHIFT key, and then click on the time series icons you want to manually validate.
  3. Right-click on a time series icon that you have selected, and from the shortcut menu click Validate.
  4. The Select Data Validation Sets dialog opens. Icons has been selected, click OK. The Select Data Validation Sets dialog will close, and the Data Validation Editor will open.
  5. The Data Validation Editor will display data from the time series icons that you selected.

List Mode

To use the List mode: 

  1. From the Select Data Validation Sets dialog, click List (default).
  2. From the Selection List, select an existing Validation List.
  3. Click OK, and the Data Validation Editor will open.

Data Status Summary Dialog – Icons Mode Only

The Icons mode is available from the Data Status Summary dialog for viewing data. 

  1. Within the Acquisition module, select Data Status Summary from the Reports menu, the Data Status Summary dialog will open. From the table, hold down the SHIFT key, and then click on the datasets you want to manually validate.
  2. From the View menu, click Validate. The Select Data Validation Sets dialog opens with Icons selected. Click OK. The Select Data Validation Sets dialog will close, and the Data Validation Editor will open.
  3. The Data Validation Editor will display data from the data sets that you selected from the Data Status Summary dialog.
