There are three main ways to view HEC-ResSim model results within HEC-RTS:

  • By right-clicking HEC-ResSim elements in the map window
  • Through the Reports tab in the Modeling module
  • By opening HEC-ResSim standalone

Viewing Plots via the Map Window

When the Modeling module is active, the map window displays icons for each model element included in the forecast alternative (e.g., cross sections and reaches). To view results for a specific element, right-click the icon and select from the available display options.

Reservoirs

There are several options available when plotting results for reservoirs in HEC-ResSim:

  • Plot
    • Upper Viewport: Displays reservoir elevation in relation to the defined zones.
    • Lower Viewport: Displays total inflows and outflows for the project.
  • Plot Power
    • Upper Viewport: Displays power generated, power capability, and power required.
    • Lower Viewport: Displays total inflows and outflows from the project, including flows for generating power.
      • Total Outflow includes flow for power generation.
      • Flow for power represents the total flow for power minus the station use.
    • Only available if the reservoir has power generation.
  • Plot Releases
    •  Displays outflows from each of the defined outlets of the reservoir, as well as any leakage or overtopping (L&O).
  • Plot Operations
    • Upper Viewport: Displays reservoir storage in relation to the defined zones.
    • Lower Viewport: Displays total inflows and outflows for the reservoir, as well as minimum and maximum flow operational limits.

Routing Reaches

There is only one option available when plotting results for routing reaches in HEC-ResSim. Routing Reach plots display the inflow to the reach and the resulting outflow after attenuation.

Junctions

There are two options available when plotting results for junctions in HEC-ResSim:

  • Plot - displays:
    • Cumulative local flow (downstream of the reservoirs) at the junction
    • Total flow at the junction
    • Any minimum or maximum rules if the junction is a downstream control point
  • Plot Inflow/Outflow - displays:
    • All inflow hydrographs at the junction, including local flows
    • Total flow at the junction

Live Display

Enabling the Live Display option causes HEC-ResSim results plots to update automatically when a HEC-ResSim alternative is recomputed.

To enable this option, select the Live Display option from the View menu as shown below.

Viewing Plots via the Reports Tab

Alternatively, you can access the same graphical results through the Reports tab. In the Forecast Tree, select the HEC-ResSim model element of interest (e.g., Coyote reservoir) and choose the desired output type from the Reports tab.

Viewing Tabular Reports via the Reports Tab

Tabular reports for HEC-ResSim results are only accessible via the Reports tab. In the Forecast Tree, select the HEC-ResSim model alternative of interest (e.g., RT-Normal) and choose the desired output type.

Reservoir Summary Report

This report summarizes the reservoirs for the active forecast run. These results include the storage, elevation, controlled release, and uncontrolled spill parameters for each reservoir.

Flow Summary Report

This report summarizes the flow at reservoirs and non-reservoir locations for the active forecast run. These results include the regulated flow, unregulated flow, and cumulative local flow for each location.

Power Summary Report

This report summarizes the hydropower information at a reservoir for the active forecast run. These results include generation efficiency, power head, hydraulic losses, energy generated per time step, power generated, plant factor, and flow power for each power plant. If the appropriate data (hydropower plant) has not been entered, this report will be blank.

Gate Summary Report

This report summarizes the gates defined for the reservoirs in the active forecast run. If the appropriate data has not been entered (i.e. gate rating curves), this report will be blank.

Stage Summary Report

This report summarizes the stage at reservoirs and non-reservoir locations for the active forecast run. These results include the regulated stage, unregulated stage, and cumulative local stage for each location. If the appropriate data has not been entered (i.e. stage/flow rating curves), this report will be blank.

Release Decision Report

The Release Decision Report provides the release decision information that HEC-ResSim computed during the simulation, based on operational rules and physical constraints defined in the HEC-ResSim watershed model. In addition, the report displays the forecast run name and time window information. The Release Decision Report displays the reservoir's Active Zone Elevation and Net Inflow for each timestep of the simulation. It also provides the Active Rule and Calculated Release for the reservoir pool, dam, and outlets for each timestep.
