To enter the observed data for a constituent from an HEC-DSS file:
From the editable data panel, from the Data Source dropdown list, select DSS (Figure 7.16). The editable panel below the Data Source (Figure 7.18) dropdown updates for the selected data source. Click the Select DSS button (Figure 7.18). The Select Time Series Path HEC-DSS selection window opens (Figure 7.19).

From the Select Time Series Path HEC-DSS selection window (Figure 7.19), from the toolbar, click Open (Figure 7.19); or from the File menu (Figure 7.19), click Open. The Open HEC-DSS File browser window (Figure 7.20) opens.

From the Open HEC-DSS File browser window (Figure 7.20), navigate to the HEC-DSS (.dss) file that contains the time series of interest. Click on the appropriate *.dss* file, and when the File name updates with the name of the selected file (e.g., RR_for_demo.dss in Figure 7.20), click Open. The Open HEC-DSS File browser window (Figure 7.20) closes, and the selected HEC-DSS file opens in the Select Time Series Path HEC-DSS selection window (Figure 7.21).
From the Select Time Series Path HEC-DSS selection window (Figure 7.21), find and select the record of interest from the opened HEC-DSS file. Click the Set Pathname button (Figure 7.21). From the Observed Dataset Editor (Figure 7.22), the editable data panel and plot window will display the selected DSS time series (Figure 7.22).

When done using the Select Time Series Path HEC-DSS selection window (Figure 7.21), from the File menu, click Close to close the Select Time Series Path HEC-DSS selection window (Figure 7.21). For more information regarding HEC-DSSVue and DSS pathnames, refer to the HEC-DSSVue User's Manual.
Enter a description (optional, but recommended) in the Description (Figure 7.22) box.
By default, the Plot Selected Data Source radio button is selected, which displays the plot for the data source selected in the Data Source dropdown (e.g., DSS in Figure 7.22). If more than one data source is filled out, the plot window displays all data sources when the Plot All Defined Data Sources radio button is selected.
Click Apply (Figure 7.22), to save the entered value before navigating to a different data source, constituent, observed station, or observed dataset. Click OK (Figure 7.22) to save the entered data and close the Observed Dataset Editor (Figure 7.22).
