Task 2 - Verify Model Linking within MetVue
The next step is to verify the Cumulus data extract is linked to the HEC-MetVue models correctly and to verify the model output by running the MetVue alternative and viewing the results.
Verify Gridded Data within MetVue
Returning to the CAVI window, right-click on the QPF - 70H0 forecast and select Display in Map to view the QPF forecast's data within the active Map Window.

Expand the QPF - 70H0 forecast and QPF MetVue alternative menus.

Notice that each Map Window icon (lightning bolt) indicates the current TIN status:

Hovering over a lightning bolt icon will produce a Tool Tip that defines the lightning bolt symbols.
The lightning bolt color-coding for the QPF - 70H0 alternative indicates that all data for the FcstPrecip, FcstTemp, ObsPrecip and ObsTemp grids loaded (Green Icons) and that the SWE grids were missing a timestep that was successfully filled (Hatched Green Icon).
The Precip (7), Temp (7) and SWE (7) icons are red because they represent the MetVue model output for the QPF alternative that has not been run yet.

Highlight the ObsPrecip dataset within the QPF MetVue alternative.
The Total Observed Precipitation for the forecast time window (25 Mar - 04 Apr 2024) will be displayed within the CAVI window, with the average values by subbasin also included.
If the data does not appear in the map window after highlighting it, try slightly shifting the map window by clicking and dragging the cursor. This will trigger the window to update and the data should then appear.

Click on the other map windows to view and verify the gridded datasets.
Verify Model Linking within HEC-MetVue
Right-click on the QPF MetVue alternative and select Compute.

Once the QPF MetVue alternative has run, notice the lightning bolt icons have all turned blue (
), including the Precip (7), Temp (7) and SWE (7) output datasets. This indicates that the computed results are now being displayed.

Click on the Precip (7) dataset to view the output in the Map Window.

Open the forecast.dss file by selecting the CWMS-Vue icon (
) in the upper CAVI window.
View the MetVue timeseries output by filtering to the following pathnames and plotting the data:

It is recommended to sort first by the F-Part 70 (which signifies it is output from the MetVue QPF Alternative since its alternative key is 7), then by the C-Part (which is the data type).

Look closely at the MetVue timeseries results.
Question: Do the results indicate that HEC-MetVue is receiving and processing the gridded data correctly in the QPF Alternative?
Precipitation
The precipitation results appear to have consistent hourly output in the lookback period (25Mar-03Apr) as-expected. Looking forward to the forecast period (04-09Apr), it appears that the 6-hour QPF grids are being correctly distributed as specified in the Temporal TIN Transformation editor (Peaked_Center).

Temperature
The temperature results in both the lookback and forecast periods appear as-expected with consistent hourly data that includes daily highs and lows.
SWE
The SWE data for the lookback period also appears accurate with initial SWE values between 0.5-1.0 inches followed by some additional snow accumulation and melt.
Repeat the above process for the NoQPF alternative.
Question: Do the results indicate that HEC-MetVue is receiving and processing the gridded data correctly in the NoQPF Alternative?

Precipitation
The precipitation results appear to have consistent hourly output in the lookback period (25Mar-03Apr) and no precipitation is present in the forecast period (04-09Apr) as expected for this alternative.
Temperature
The temperature results in both the lookback and forecast periods appear as-expected with consistent hourly data that includes daily highs and lows.
SWE
The SWE data for the lookback period also appears accurate with initial SWE values between 0.5-1.0 inches followed by some additional snow accumulation and melt.
