Part 2 – Create an FRA Simulation
Create a New Analysis Period
To create a simulation the first step must be to have an analysis period. To create a new analysis period:
1. From the Study Tree, right-click on the Analysis Periods folder and click New from the shortcut menu. The Create New Analysis Periods dialog opens. Enter the information displayed in the figure below. Click OK, to create the new analysis period and close the Create New Analysis Periods dialog.
Create an FRA Simulation
2. Now that we have an analysis period defined, we can create a simulation within our alternative “Without Project Condition.” To do this, from the Study Tree, right-click on the Simulations folder and click New from the shortcut menu. The Create New Simulation dialog opens.
3. Complete the Create New Simulation dialog by first entering the name (Existing) of the FRA simulation in the Name box. Next, check the Run FRA checkbox and set the compute to run 1 realization with 500 years per realization. From the Hydrologic Event Alternative dropdown select RR_Precipitation, and select TW 50 Year from the Analysis Period dropdown.
Create a Program Order for the FRA Simulation
We will now need to create a Program Order specific to this study and simulation. Selecting an FRA compute automatically puts the Hydrologic Sampler as the first program in the compute sequence; consequently, our program order needs to include only HMS and ResSim in the correct order. To create the new program order:
4. From the Create New Simulation dialog, click the New button, located next to the Program Order dropdown list. The Program Order dialog opens followed immediately with the New Program Order dialog opened on top.
5. Enter the Name of the new program order “HMS_ResSim” and click the Select Programs button to open the Selection Editor. From the list of Available programs, select the HMS program and click the Add Repeat the selection for the ResSim program. Then click OK.
- From the New Program Order dialog click OK, and from the Program Order dialog click OK.
6. From the Create New Simulation dialog, from the Program Order dropdown, select the created HMS_ResSim program order and the HMS and ResSim programs should appear as rows in the Models table (HMS at the top followed by ResSim at the bottom) as displayed in the figure below.
- Select “(MCA)Russian River FRA” and “Baseline_F” from the HMS and ResSim alternative dropdown lists, respectively.
7. Click OK, the Create New Simulation dialog closes and the FRA simulation is added to the HEC-WAT study.
8. Save the HEC-WAT study, click File | Save Study, or click the icon from the HEC-WAT toolbar.
