HEC-MetVue is an alternate modeling option for MFP in CWMS.   It is important to note that moving to a new program order will break old Forecasts and Forecast Runs with MFP in them. MFP will be retired after CWMS 3.4.


There are three options described in this document to update your CWMS Watersheds to use HEC-MetVue in lieu of MFP.

  1. Modify the Program Order - Modify the Program Order in the existing watershed to include HEC-MetVue and remove MFP. This approach includes reconfiguring the existing Alternatives to work with the new Program Order. Again, you will need to delete the old Forecast Runs and Forecasts in your watershed. 
  2. Create a New Watershed - This approach uses the Save As on an existing CWMS watershed. You will need to delete the old Forecast Runs and Forecasts in your new watershed. However, you could create a new Watershed from scratch, to eliminate the concerns of old Forecast Runs not working.
  3. Add New Program Order - Add a new Program Order that includes HEC-MetVue. For example: HEC-MetVue to HEC-HMS to HEC-ResSim. This approach also includes reconfiguring the existing Alternatives to work with the new Program Order. Again, it is recommended to use Alternatives with only one Program Order to decrease the possibility of model failures due to Model Linking and Extract complexities.

Modify the Program Order

  • Clean up Forecasts, Forecast Runs, and Model Alternatives
  • Modify Program Order to include HEC-MetVue and remove MFP
  • Import the HEC-MetVue Project
  • Create an HEC-MetVue model alternative and incorporate into a CAVI forecast run that uses the modified program order and add into a simulation

Create a New Watershed

  • Use Save As for existing watershed OR create a new watershed
  • If using the Save As feature to create a copy of the watershed, clean up Forecasts, Forecast Runs, and Model Alternatives
  • Modify the program order to include HEC-MetVue and remove MFP
  • Create a new HEC-MetVue Project
  • Import the HEC-MetVue Project
  • Create an HEC-MetVue model alternative and incorporate into a CAVI forecast run the uses the modified program order and add into a simulation

Add New Program Order

  • Create a new program order to include HEC-MetVue and remove MFP
  • Create a new HEC-MetVue Project
  • Import the HEC-MetVue Project
  • Create an HEC-MetVue model alternative and incorporate into a CAVI forecast run that uses the new program order and simulation
